Poch’s 3 Biggest Fails Against Olympiakos

By The Boy -

In the pre-match prattle to this game, I warned of two dangers for Tottenham, against these Greeks.

The first was that Pochettino might deny Spurs the opportunity to maintain the feel good factor developed against Crystal Palace.

The second was that seeking to underestimate Olympiakos would be the work of a fool.

Sanchez as a right back

We don’t need to see this boy played in this spot ever again. Classic Bochettino Playbook stuff. ‘I’m in charge, I am (sic) manager, I am (sic) winner’.

This is why you’re incapable of winning anything, Botch, you would not know how.

Serge Aurier has a good game against Palace, so he gets rewarded with demotion for the following game. Genius.

Momentum killed. Job done.

Davies at left back

Does he look fit to you? Distressing that doesn’t look up to to playing at this level.

Danny Rose on the wrong end of Mauricio’s marvellous mentorship on this occasion.

Christian Eriksen

Has anyone seen my patience for this doleful Dane? I can’t see it anywhere, oh dear it appears to be completely lost.

Nobody lost the ball more with a greater frequency. He simply doesn’t care.

I don’t have a problem with Rose and Aurier being rotated and rested for Saturday’s game against Leicester … but … having already seen that Sanchez was totally incapable of playing right back, it was asinine to then play him there again. The obvious choice was Walker-Peters.

As for Davies, I suspect match fitness was the problem. He is quite capable of playing the LB position at a decent level and has rotated with Rose on many occasions. There was no lack of effort or commitment from him, but he just didn’t seem fully fit last night.

As for Christian Erikssen, to sum it up in one word, abysmal. The worst performance I have seen from him in a Spurs shirt. How he wasn’t replaced, is a complete and utter mystery to me. It was fair enough bringing on Sissoko for Ndombele, who was coming back from injury, but taking off Lucas for Lamela, when Erikssen was stinking the joint out, was inexcusable.

Whilst busy blaming the players for not following instructions, Poch needs to take a good hard look at his selection policy and his own game management. This is not a game we should have dropped points in, having (undeservedly) gone 2-0 up, yet it happened for the second time in three games.

As mentioned by 1882 below Davies being picked was an open invitation to their right sider….. Odd.

In my forty-plus years as a fan, I’ve seen plenty of players come and go and plenty of them have had terrible games but I don’t think I’ve seen anyone stink the place up as badly as Eriksen did last night.

If he’d been doing that under someone like Alex Ferguson or maybe Mourinho, he’d have been hooked before half time – if he’d even been picked in the first place with such a shitty attitude.

I do wonder how the rest of the squad feel about someone who clearly doesn’t care and doesn’t want to be there continually being picked and playing the full 90 minutes, especially when someone like Aurier comes in, actually gives a shit, has a good game as a result and is summarily dropped the very next game.

Potch I think clearly indicated his target for this year again…Top 4 and anything on the CL front is a bonus. Yet to me, if that is his plan…why not rest Kane instead of Serge? Aurier will get a rest at points this year when Dier, KWP and Foythe are fit…Kane will not.
I am really not sure what the game plan was, and it doesn’t take much scouting to see that Podence on their right wing and Valbuena have been their only real good players this season. Podence was too fast and too skilful for Davies to play at left back. All we needed to do at 2-0 was keep the ball safe until half time. The Olympiacos players would not have fancied the 2nd half, and would have opened up trying to get it back. As I said last night, we have played 6 games so far this season and fucked up 2 2-0 leads, both at a few minuites before half time.
