Pierluigi Gollini comments on leaving English football back in 2018 ahead of a second stint

By Eddie Razo -

Pierluigi Gollini is returning to English football following his transfer from Atalanta BC to Tottenham Hotspur. The 26-year-old spent time with Aston Villa at the Championship level from 2016 to 2018.

The Italy international made 20 appearances and decided to venture back to his homeland with Atalanta. Gollini spoke about the decision to leave English football three years ago during an interview with Spurs TV

Despite leaving for Atalanta, who has become a significant threat for a top-four finish in Serie A over the last two years, Gollini discussed how the decision worked out for him.

“Yes, I was on the bench (on facing Spurs in the FA Cup when he was at Villa),” said Gollini. “I didn’t play. We lost and I only played for six months at Villa.

“I had the chance to go to Atalanta. I thought that was the right choice to do at the time. And I guess I was right.”

Now the goalkeeper is back in England and is ready to fight for the starting position with Hugo Lloris. Gollini has made 112 appearances for Atalanta, including some significant matches in the UEFA Champions League.

Gollini comes back to English football with more experience and is ready to test himself in the country’s top-tier league this season.
