Peter Crouch claims Antonio Conte has got Tottenham ‘playing like’ his former club

By Mehdi Gokal -

Former Tottenham striker, Peter Crouch believes Antonio Conte’s tactics at Spurs are the same as his old club Stoke City’s under Tony Pulis.

Crouch played for Stoke, Liverpool, and a few other Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, where he made 73 appearances and scored 12 goals.

Antonio Conte’s side were defeated 3-1 by north London rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. Spurs had several counter-attacking chances in the first half, but Crouch believes Conte set up his team to defend too deep against the Gunners.

The Italian’s style of play reminds Crouch of the type of football he used to play at Stoke, and he has urged Tottenham to be more “expansive” and “progressive.”

While performing his pundit duties with BT Sport, he said:

“I’ve played this way at Stoke.

“Tottenham have got enough players to not play this way, I think they can be a little bit more expansive.

“But if you do play this way, you’ve got to get out to people, you’ve got to get out to the ball, it’s got to be more progressive, it’s got to be with more aggression.”

Spurs would have hoped to bounce back from the humiliating derby defeat with a nice away win against Frankfurt in the Champions League but they were held to a 0-0 draw in yet another frustrating game for the Tottenham supporters.
