‘Paratici masterclass’ – Some Spurs fans react to reports regarding 24-yr-old’s exit

By Saikat -

Dutch international winger Steven Bergwijn arrived at Tottenham Hotspur with massive expectations in a deal worth around £27 million back in January 2020.

The 24-year-old was expected to be a key part of Tottenham’s attack but things have not gone according to plan for the former PSV Eindhoven winger.

The highly-rated winger announced his arrival in the Premier League with a stunning goal against Manchester City and naturally the fans expected him to prosper in English football.

Bergwijn now finds himself on the fringes of the first team at the London club and he has been heavily linked with a move away this summer.

According to a report from De Telegraaf, the Netherlands winger is now expected to return to the Eredivisie this summer and Ajax have reportedly agreed on a fee of around €30m for his services.

The 24-year-old started just four Premier League games this past season and a player of his calibre deserves to play regular first-team football.

The Dutchman will be hoping to resurrect his career with a move back to the Netherlands this summer.

Bergwijn had already dropped down the pecking order last season and the arrival of Richarlison has only made the situation worse for him.

Staying at Tottenham would mean another season as a squad player for the Dutch international and with the World Cup coming up later this year, the 24-year-old cannot risk his place in the Dutch national team squad due to the lack of game time.

While some Tottenham fans feel that the likes of Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici have done well to recoup the money they spent on Bergwijn, a section of the fanbase feels that the Dutchman is a player with immense potential and Spurs could regret losing him this summer.

Here is what some of the Tottenham fans had to say about the rumours surrounding his potential departure.

So Stevie can’t risk being a squad player for Holland WC team but Memphis can? Smh.

‘Paratici Master Class’… Dear oh dear….

He’s just being sold at market value at €30m, what part of this is a master class?

Like the Gatusso/Nuno debacle? Getting Diaz over the line etc. Master class, sure… 😂
