‘not in Antonio Conte’s plans…’ – Journalist confirms Spurs outcast ‘has been offered’ to Serie A giants

By Mehdi Gokal -

Roma are reportedly considering a move for Tottenham’s Harry Winks as they seek a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum who’ll be out after suffering a terrible injury.

The former Liverpool midfielder joined the Giallorossi on loan from Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month, looking for a new challenge after a difficult year in France, but things started badly, with the player breaking his tibia in training. Roma must now find another player to bolster Jose Mourinho’s midfield in order to compete for a top-four finish.

According to Il Tempo and La Repubblica (via Football Italia), the latest player in Roma’s sights is Tottenham outcast Harry Winks, who has failed to impress Antonio Conte in North London and has been listed for transfer. The Englishman didn’t play much in the second half of last season and has yet to appear this season.

According to journalist Nicol Schira, Roma are interested in acquiring Winks on a loan with an option to buy.

Spurs have already got rid of four players who were on the fringes of the team this season, including Steven Bergwijn (to Ajax on a permanent basis), Joe Rodon (on loan to Rennes), Tanguy Ndombele (on loan to Napoli), and Giovani Lo Celso (on loan to Villarreal).

With Harry Winks offered to Roma who are desperate for a short-term midfielder, it could be a win-win deal for all parties including Winks who is looking for regular playing time ahead of the World Cup.

Nice little all expenses paid weekend in Rome, I’d certainly do it if I were in the job! 😂

Not sure Jose would be seeking out Winks but perhaps it’s not solely his decision. He played him more than Conte has I suppose. It would be interesting to see how Winks might do in Italy, the slower pace might suit him, who knows.
