No Contest: Comparing Lo Celso to Fernandes Hinges Upon Two Distinct Factors

By The Boy -

Jose Mourinho said that he’d pick Giovani Lo Celso over Bruno Fernandes, which is a pretty thin fishing expedition on behalf of whoever asked the gaffer the question in the first place. Who tells their wife that they wished they’d married one of the bridesmaids instead?

At the risk of attracting the accusation that I’m making excuses for the boy Lo Celso, I’d say there are two distinct elements when comparing the two players, that disadvantage our Argentinian.

One, Manchester United have a very effective defensive midfield, and two, the Fernandes lad is thoroughgoing cheat. That’s not just my view, Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan called Fernandes out back in March.

Bruno Fernandes cheating vs Spurs

Should Bruno Fernandes thrive in the Premier League, then his record will also show he was talented, but like Diego Costa, couldn’t lie straight in bed.

Whose job is it to sort that out?

It looked like the players only thought ,its Sheffield and only had to turn up,but they did a job on us and you have to win the fight to win the war. I wouldn’t want to be in the trenches with our lot,no fight in them. You can’t just turn up in the big games.

Maureen should have made changes sooner. Four up top was never quite working. He was trying to play to our strengths. Unfortunately a good few of our players are not good enough.

Champs league final team has half been dismantled now really. Tintin gone, trips gone, rose gone. Toby and verts not starting in the middle… Which i think is strange they are our best…. The only good thing I can see at the minute is a rejuvenated Eric Dier 😆 He’s now playing where he wants, and he’s starting so he knows Maureen has faith. He suddenly looks a leader for us.. Still Toby and Verts for me they should be put back in now.

That moment when you marry Rebel Wilson, and the bridesmaid is Scarlett Johansson.. Maureen is no fool he has to back his boys… Lo Celso is only one year younger though, 20 games now and a regular in Maureens teams. No goals no assists. He’s no good at free kicks.. Bruno Fernandes is a baller he has goals and assists. His stats all round smashes Gios. He passes more often and more accurate. He shoots more often and scores. Key passes are more. Dribbling stats are four times higher and thats where I thought Gio may have pipped him but no chance.. Bruno has been more valuable to united in 5 games than Gio and Tanguy and Gedson put together for us. As per usual the scouting board and Levy are bound to be at fault here…. Kane was top diver in the prem at one point with 4 or 5 bookings for simulation. I get it if its to avoid injury, but obviously we want any cheating stamped out the game… We should have bought Bruno though he was the perfect upgrade for tintin. He has taken United up a gear. Opposed to our mix match of jokers, especially Ndomballboy, club record signing can’t get off the bench.

I’m not going to blame Mourinho for this, he inherited a burnt out squad and then has been stymied by Covid. Poch over achieved big style but that was unsustainable without major investment. The fault is with the net spend model it can carry you so far and it did, very far, to a Champions League Final and runners up for the Premier League title. But net spend has it’s limits and we have reached them. Time for something new.

Jose is now questioning the player’s commitment, this isn’t a wise move for a number of reasons. This is a squad that got to a Champions League final, this isn’t a rabble of errant teenagers.

Questioning their professionalism might distract people from his own short comings but it doesn’t really stand up to scrutiny. Sorry, but the manager plays a massive role in motivating them as a TEAM over a season.

He’s sounding more and more like a desperate man and the more he hangs his players out like this, the more he will slowly alienate them.

Yes, the problems come from the top but this supposedly ‘great’ manager can’t even get a tune out of a team that played in a European final a year ago? We aren’t talking about winning the league, we are talking about turning up at Sheffield Utd away on a Thursday evening and not looking like a pile of cr*p.

Is this rather basic task beyond even this supposed habitual ‘winner’? Yes the players were 4 out of 10. But for goodness sake, does Jose score any higher?

I am actually surprised at how mediocre he was last night.
There again hand on heart who was better?
