This summer window began life full of huge plans for a major refurbishment. Some sites were threatening us with sizable transfer activity, with as many as ten names tipped for an exit from Hotspur Way. The longer the window has gone on, the less evidence there has been to even vaguely support such a notion. The mumbling about Emerson Royal continues, as do threats of selling Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Ange Postecoglou himself has landed a gig on ITV covering the Euros and has been excellent value as a pundit. Benjamin Sesko was one player whose name came up for discussion as Slovenia rather frustratingly held England to a draw. The RB Leipzig striker, who is now in the last 16 of the tournament, has been linked with a move to the Emirates.
However, with a release clause over £50 million, and at just 21 years of age, Ange offered perhaps sage advice:
“I think a big club would have looked at him this year, and it’s a smart move for him to stay there for another year. I think there’s still some development in him, but really good attributes for a striker position, for sure.”
ITV anchor Pougatch quickly retorted:
“Is that the Tottenham manager saying it’s a smart move not to go to Arsenal?”
To which Ange went, ‘No comment’.
With 14 goals and 2 assists, there’s certainly more work to be done, as far as the lad is concerned, and the price tag perhaps reflects a potential that’s yet to be achieved.
Spurs need to get the ball rolling themselves, and according to trusted sources, that doesn’t look like that’s happening just yet, and it’s Arsenal who could be poised to upset Ange’s plans.
