New signing Arnaut Danjuma appears to aim a subtle dig at Everton after ditching them to join Spurs

Arnaut Danjuma officially joined Tottenham on loan from Villarreal yesterday, however, his journey to the North London club was not a straightforward one.

Danjuma had been on the verge of joining Everton mere days earlier, and the transfer had even reached an advanced stage.

The player had undergone a medical at Goodison Park and had even performed pre-emptive club media duties according to FourFourTwo. However, everything collapsed after Frank Lampard was sacked as Everton’s manager on Monday.

Tottenham subsequently swooped in and hijacked the player right from under Everton’s noses.

And during the interview with the Spurs’ official website, the 25-year-old appears to have taken a subtle dig at the Merseyside club by calling the move a ‘no-brainer’. He said:

“I’m delighted to be here. Obviously, this opportunity is very important to me; I’m just really happy to be here.”

“To be honest with you, as soon as Tottenham Hotspur came through, it was a no-brainer. It is a massive club with a brilliant coach, brilliant staff and the facilities are obviously unbelievable. So, for me, I’m very, very excited to be part of the team.”

Danjuma made quite an impression for Villarreal since joining from Bournemouth, but he fell down the pecking order since Unai Emery’s departure.

The transfer is expected to bolster Antonio Conte’s team who are currently in the middle of a tight race for the top four spot in the Premier League and are also competing in the Champions League and FA Cup.

Spurs will now hope to quickly seal the transfer of Sporting Lisbon’s Pedro Porro before the deadline day.
