‘never got going for what he’s good at’ – National media slams Tottenham ace on Int’l duty

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been criticised for his performance against San Marino on Tuesday night.

The 28-year-old midfielder started the game for Denmark and helped his side win the match 2-1 eventually. However, he failed to assert his dominance in the middle of the park and his tendency to give the ball away, left the national media uncompressed.

Danish publication Ekstra Bladet were critical of his performance and they gave him a two-star rating for his lack of desire, work rate, and poor decision-making.

They wrote: “The ox in the middle never got going for what he’s good at.

“Pierre was unfriendly with the ball, tried dribbles that were impossible beforehand, and the runs were too few. But he was one of those who tried something.”

It has been a difficult season for Hojbjerg so far and he has struggled for regular gametime at Tottenham as well. There have been rumours that the player is not a good fit for Ange Postecoglou’s free-flowing attacking football and Tottenham are hoping to get rid of him in the coming months.

He has been linked with clubs like Atletico Madrid and Juventus in recent weeks. It remains to be seen whether his suitors are prepared to make their move during the January transfer window and secure his services.

Hojbjerg was a key player for Tottenham under the previous manager Antonio Conte, but he has not been able to replicate his top form since the start of the season. He will be hoping to play regularly at this stage of his career and moving away from Tottenham would be ideal for all parties.
