Negotiations for 28-year-old in ‘advanced stages’ but Levy is yet to agree on a fee

Clement Lenglet has been linked with a permanent move to Tottenham Hotspur since the start of the summer transfer window.

Spurs signed Lenglet on loan from Barcelona last summer who was considered to be a stop-gap signing at that time after the club failed to sign any of their top priority centre-backs.

But it seems that the 28-year-old left a lasting impression on the club’s hierarchy who are now interested in signing him on a permanent deal but on a reduced price.

The player has already agreed personal terms with Tottenham and as per a report from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo last week, the player is waiting on the two clubs to agree on a fee.

Latest report from Sport claims that it is ‘crucial’ for the financially struggling Barcelona to sell Lenglet to Tottenham in order to take load off their pay-roll in order to lower their wage bill.

The Spanish side desperately need to sign a right-back but in order to make the move possible, they need to trim their squad.

But the report claims that the negotiations with the North London club are becoming complicated due to the difference in the perceived valuation of the player.

While there is still plenty of time lift in the transfer window to sell Lenglet, the problem for Barcelona new sporting director Deco is that they may be running out of options for their preferred right-back targets.

Meanwhile, according to Mundo Deportivo, while negotiations with Tottenham are in ‘advanced stages’ compared to any other club, the La Liga champions are willing to wait for the right deal, believing that the French defender has more than one suitor.

It remains to be seen whether Daniel Levy can strike a deal with Barcelona and agree on a fee or will Spurs fail to close the deal.
