‘Negotiations are taking place’ with Spurs for Conte target, ‘door is likely to open’

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur have not given up on the signing of Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder has been linked with a move to the Premier League side this summer and it appears that the two clubs are currently locked in negotiations.

According to a report from Foot Mercato, Roma are now prepared to sell the talented midfielder this summer and Spurs are reportedly leading the chase for his services. Apparently, the player is not a key part of Jose Mourinho’s plans next season.

The report claims that ‘negotiations are taking place’ and ‘the door is likely to open by the end of the transfer window’.

The Londoners have had an impressive transfer window so far and bringing in a quality playmaker could prove to be the final piece of the puzzle for Antonio Conte’s side.

Spurs have exceptional attackers like Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min and Richarlison at their disposal and they need to bring in someone who can create ample amount of chances for their goal-scorers.

Zaniolo is highly rated across Europe and he has the potential to develop into a top-class player with the right coaching.

Conte will know all about the midfielder having watched him closely during his time in Italy and there is no doubt that the Italian could unlock his tremendous potential.

The Tottenham manager is a world-class coach who has improved numerous players during the course of his managerial career and it wouldn’t be surprising if the Roma ace is tempted to work with him at Spurs next season.

Furthermore, a move to Tottenham would allow the player to compete in the Champions League next season, which is something Roma will not be able to offer.

I’m not sure either he or Maddison would even fit into Conte’s tactics. The Roma player has had serious injuries in the not so distant past and Maddison I’m not convinced about. Mind you, I’m not particularly convinced about Richarlison either. However at least I can see where he fits into Conte’s system, not these two.

I would much rather see us sign a proven EPL player, like Maddison, who’s not carrying the baggage of serial, serious injury. Apparently, Leicester have just turned down £40m for him, from Newcastle. There must’ve been encouragement from somewhere for that bid to be made, so he’s likely to be available

While he appears to be a quite talented boy, the two cruciate injuries ring huge alarm bells
