“My understanding is”, “…that’s not happening” – Sky Sports man’s latest update on Eze is not the most encouraging one

Tottenham Hotspur are keenly observing Crystal Palace’s star Eberechi Eze as a prime transfer target for this summer.

Despite considerable interest from Spurs and Manchester City, Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge reports that the England international is not on the verge of leaving Selhurst Park.

Eze, who has a £68 million release clause, has been a standout for Crystal Palace. His performance last season, where he scored 11 goals and provided four assists in 27 Premier League appearances, has attracted attention from several top clubs. (Transfermarkt)

His inclusion in England’s final 26-man squad for the recent Euros further highlights his potential impact at the international level.

Bridge notes that while Tottenham greatly admires Eze’s abilities, there are no advanced negotiations or imminent plans to acquire the attacking midfielder.

The journalist suggests that the 26-year-old might benefit from another season at Crystal Palace, where he can remain a key player. This additional time could help him further develop his skills and prepare for a future move to a top club.

From Spurs’ perspective, securing a player of Eze’s calibre would significantly strengthen their squad. With Son Heung-min ageing, adding a dynamic and versatile winger like Eze could provide the necessary depth and creativity needed for future success.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Bridge said:

“There’s nothing forward in terms of [Eberechi] Eze. I know I’ve seen reports about Manchester City if Kevin de Bruyne was to leave, but Pep Guardiola has come out and said that’s not happening. I know Tottenham like Eze, but my understanding is that there is nothing close for anything in terms of him.

“He hasn’t – as it stands – come out and said he wants to move. Perhaps another season at Palace might do him some good, being the key player there, and then see where he goes with the De Bruyne’s and other key players maybe leaving top clubs.

“Son Heung-min is getting a year older, and maybe just one more season at Palace would do him some good.”

However, the Lilywhites may need to wait until circumstances align more favourably before making a decisive move. Eze’s current contract with Palace, extended until the summer of 2027, ensures that any transfer would require substantial negotiation.

Tottenham remains prepared to act when the right opportunity arises while acknowledging that Eze might be the right man to join Ange Postecoglou’s attacking ranks.
