Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly in the final stages of negotiations for the signing of Sporting star Pedro Porro, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stating that the deal is expected to be completed soon.
According to the Italian journalist, the right-back has made it clear that he wants to join the Premier League club, and Tottenham are said to be able to pay the £40million release clause written into Porro’s Sporting contract in up to four instalments.
He added that personal terms are not expected to be an issue, as Porro has already agreed to a five-year contract in North London.
Sporting and Tottenham held a new round of talks on Thursday, and there is growing confidence that Porro’s move could be announced within the next 48 hours.
According to journalist Rudy Galetti, Porro has been identified as Tottenham’s priority target ahead of the fast-approaching transfer deadline.
Romano understands that Tottenham had to dig deep to reach this stage of negotiations, with Sky Sports previously reporting that Sporting are attempting to prolong the negotiations in order to keep Porro on their books.
But with the player being keen to complete the move, the transfer guru is expecting the deal to go through.
Romano told GiveMeSport:
“It was not an easy negotiation because Sporting really wanted to keep the player, but Pedro Porro wanted to go to Tottenham.
The contract is ready, so they’re just waiting for the final steps of this deal. My feeling is that it will be done very soon.”
Porro is a versatile player, known for his attacking abilities, and is a threat in the final third of the pitch. He has found the back of the net 16 times and registered a further 24 assists over the course of his senior club career.
Fourteen of those goal contributions have come in the current campaign and his underlying numbers are favourable when compared to current Tottenham stars Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty.
With the signing of Porro, Tottenham will be adding a player who can not only strengthen their defense but also contribute to their attack, making them a formidable team in the league.
