Mourinho’s departure hasn’t ended Spurs’ interest in Austrian

By Bruce Grove -

Marcel Sabitzer is still a target for Tottenham as the Lilywhites look to rebuild their squad.

The Austrian was first linked with a move to the North London side when Jose Mourinho was their manager.

He has since been sacked and has been made the new manager of AS Roma.

It looked like he had recommended to the club to bring in the RB Leipzig man but now that he is gone, they will end their pursuit.

However, the print version of La Gazzetta Dello Sport as cited by SportsWitness say the Lilywhites are still interested in a move for him.

The report says they have identified him as a player who could help them bring goals from their midfield.

He has been in fine form for the Germans and may have played in his last campaign for them.

The 27-year-old scored eight goals and provided four assists in the Bundesliga this season.

Spurs have relied on Harry Kane and Son Heung-min for the goals and they would be keen to get some from their midfielders.

This is something that Sabitzer can almost guarantee and signing him for the next manager could be the perfect welcome gift.

The report adds that Leipzig will be open to selling him because they need to balance the books after signing some new players recently.

Only seven goals in a three horse league. No thanks. Maybe I’m being harsh was he injured?
