Mourinho Said To Have Had It Out With A Number Of Players Before Leaving Hotspur Way

Mike McGrath for Telegraph Online understands that José Mourinho’s exit from Hotspur Way was not a particularly quick one. The Portuguese’s discussions with Daniel Levy are said to have lasted some two hours and after which, the 58-year-old had his say with the first-team squad as a group. I’m not shocked by this, as I have mentioned previously, we were witnessing the same mental shutting down that was witnessed in the last days of Mauricio Pochettino.

Poch and José both looked extremely uptight towards the end, clearly itching to let loose with their own versions of the truth but perhaps mindful of the signed and sealed non-disclosure agreement on file. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Mourinho took his chance to unload where he could. One can only imagine how juicy some of the home truths might have been.

If accurate, the time spent with Levy is reassuring, and it strikes me as if it may have been more of a ‘bend or break’ type affair. It doesn’t take anyone 2 hours to say ‘you don’t work here anymore’.

You’re right our midfield is rubbish. But so is our defence… Take away Kane and Son and we have a rubbish attack too.. Yeah I know Bale has a wonderful touch and strike but he can do nothing for 80 mins.. Son can go missing in similar fashion.. We need a full transition.

It proves the lack of understanding from Levy in what is best for the club.

It is classic Mourinho. Clearly all the problems at Spurs are not of his making but increasingly every criticism of Spurs performances and his coaching was deflected onto the players.
Despite his own self proclaimed coaching credentials it is hard to have seen any improvement in any of the Spurs playing personnel over his tenure.
For someone as supposedly astute as Levy not to have envisaged what might happen is quite bizarre

I think much of the time spent with Levy would have been discussing his severance package.

What could Mourinho gain from ripping into the players for four hours, he created his own mess by dividing the squad from day one, he had 17 months to sort them out, bit late for telling them what he thinks.
However there is no doubt some are unworthy of a wage and that is Levy’s fault for not getting rid, ridiculous.

The “one man that will win us a trophy”? What makes you think he is capable of that? Forget the best team in the country, look at Mourinho’s efforts of late against the other eight teams in the top nine. In his last ten games against such teams he lost 9 and drew one. How would that have inspired anyone with confidence in him to beat Man City????

Even Ledders, legend he is, can’t work miracles.
A lot of the defensive issues have come from individual errors, some of which you just don’t expect pros to make.
The lack of control in midfield also over exposes the defence.

I actually think the midfield balance is the biggest issue to be resolved… PEH & maybe Sissoko apart no one in the central areas is capable of putting in a stint for 90 minutes & is one of the biggest reasons we keep on conceding goals in the last 20 minutes of games… i.e. we need to make a minimum of 2 subs , let alone if anyone is having a mare or team losing/injuries ..furthermore only 2 of the front 3 track back & are creative or score goals. The unbalance in these areas places an unnecessary strain on our defense, which is the last thing Aurrier & Sanchez need…😏

I can see a tonking & Levy squirming in his seat.

& Jose in the distance saying, “be careful what you wish for”, to those players & Levy

Good. Let the wasters know in no uncertain terms that they are wasters before the affable new guy comes in.

Let’s hope there is at least some pride in the squad that will make them put in a genuine, 90-minute effort at Wembley. If we f… about for 45 minutes like against Soton, we won’t escape just one goal down.

£150m from where you say Tappa?

You say, from where? But if the money is not there, why get rid of the one man that will by hook or by crook get us to the highest league position possible, or the one man that will win us a trophy, if its at all possible?

You sack him, to go get WHO?

I think we can guess what some of that 2 hours was spent discussing. It’s quite frightening how tough it must be to work for Levy, when Jose came in he knew the financial constraints, and his first presser even towed the party line immediately out the gate. He wasn’t expecting to be able to buy real quality players, but still it’s ended quickly and predictably. So now another will come….and fail…cos of the real and only problem….and yet, they’re STILL out there. Last night a Spurs “fan” on the radio declared Levy had done a “phenomenal job”. Oh yes, even now…..they’re o u t t h e r e…..X file music please…..

I hope he told some of them how lazy they are. When do we start questioning Ledley’s input seeing as the defence has been the problem all season?
