Mourinho Doomed As Lack Of Bench Options Scuppered His Good Fortune Today

By The Boy -

I have made the case repeatedly that no coach could save Spurs right now, nor in the immediate future. Talk of unrest in the dressing room has generated clicks more because of the way that fitted a narrative, opposed to anything we have witnessed today.

When Sissoko came on, there were those watching that felt that this was Mourinho seeking to somehow grab the draw and run. That fits the narrative, but the truth is less exciting. Mourinho knows in his heart of hearts that Moussa wasn’t the answer.

If one looks look at the bench, who could José trust? Not Dele Alli. Winks would actually be worse. Which left Bale who came on and did nothing.

The disallowed goal was a stroke of good fortune, even though the kung fu strike on Sonny was a legitimate foul.

Gio Lo Celso visibly tired, as did Tanguy Ndombele. Again, what options did the Portuguese have? I don’t share any enthusiasm for anyone on that bench, and nor did Mourinho.

If the gaffer were to quit tonight I wouldn’t blame him; if he wants to work again after this, then it’s not a good look.

Unlucky?

I could understand if the teams in your comment were Liverpool, Chelsea, Man U etc etc

But we took 1 point of West Ham this season and 2 points of a dreadful Newcastle team. We were outplayed by Brighton, outclassed by Leicester, outplayed by Fulham, Out desired by Arsenal.

There was nothing unlucky about Zagreb.

The manager has been here long enough, spent a year out the game, would have known our weaknesses early doors and did very little to improve them.

Ultimately he has dissolved team spirit, the players lack passion and fight and it will cost us hugely.

That my Friend is the Mourinho effect.

There is an irony here.

Bale only does it against the pub sides as does the Manager.

The fact he brought on Sissoko and played Dier from the get go tells me our club is going nowhere fast. It’s not just about the bench. He’s also limited on who he actually starts.

Ha ha don’t feel bad ,at least you have the balls to admit it , I would take pammy over most of that squad ,I just worry he will get sent off every week.

Mourinho should have started this game with JJ is best three.that is Kane,Bale and Son.The three attackers are experienced and do think. The rest should have come as substitutes. If he shows confidence in Bale,he will score goals but Jose’apoears to be at war with Bale and he will be the loser.
Jose’cnt be at war with young boys, they will embarrass him,.I HAVE ALWAYS ADVISED JOSE’THAT THE BEST WAY OF DEFENCE IS ATTACK.If the game is played in your half, you lose the game.
HE KUST AKWAYS START BALE

He frequently carts out the “don’t forget these players fell out/underperformed with Poch too” line but forgets the drivel Mourinho has done recently. In fact when that is brought up it’s a “narrative”. Double standards much?

And this is coming from a guy who wanted to give Mourinho time.

He speaks Portuguese, I saw HH posted saying he lost the ball 16 times and Jose trusts him 😂

You don’t put players on the bench unless you are considering using them. You don’t then ignore every single player on the bench who has an attacking bone in them when bringing off Lo Celso because of lack of options. He had Lemela who he brought on later on and who would have sent a positive signal to the team. He also injects a lot of energy into the team when he comes on, and he was superb last time we played ManU.

He lost his nerve in the truth. Lost his bottle completely and folded.

If he wanted to defend then why not bring another defender on, switch to a back 3 at least then the fullbacks would have had more freedom and it would have made us look more steady at the back also.

Compounded by his other baffling decision were the subs and timing of the subs. Compared to West Hams tempo our recycling of the ball approach play is much too laboured and pedestrian exposing both Lo Celso and Ndombele’s deficiencies in the process!

Ah the bench, somebody on another blog made a point about Lamela. He’s been seven or eight years at the club and he has still not established himself in the first team. And he’s still here. Why? Puts himself about gives it everything, a real team player etc, etc. The fact that he’s still here shows you why we never won anything.

Absolutely baffling decision to play Dier. As it was he was true to form being at fault for two of the goals.

his performance isn’t based on age. He’s the best we have even if he’s 42.

We only have 2 players in central midfield, who can tackle, and last 90 minutes, and one of them is Sissoko…this speaks volumes about our strength in depth. In fairness to Mourinho we’ve been a bit unlucky this season as we should based on performances of had 12 points from West Ham & Newcastle games only to end up with a pitiful 3.

A bit like Alan partridge trying to save his job spouting random ideas for future shows to his boss. Which all virtually came to fruition 10 years later.
Chris Eubanks cooking in prison was one of them I think.
It’s a strange world…

So much for our heralded 2 teams ,levy has done well in the transfer market chatter. Now we havent got 3 subs of any value ,did we actually start the season like this?

I remember making a joke on here a couple years ago about in the 2023 season or summin getting retina scanned to go and watch the return of new top signing Gylfi Siggurdson to the ‘Tottenham Hotspur Stadium……frighteningly it’s not that far off.

Bale came on and did nothing? He had about ten minutes of normal time and by then the game was effectively lost.

Oh and contracts are being given out to facial recognition tech company’s to combine that with the vax passport….

So when you eventually go to watch ENIC fc in the championship vs Barnsley or Luton, that’s what you will have to endure.

Welcome to hell….and I don’t mean Galatasaray.

By freshening things up It’s time to drop some of the underachievers and give an extended run out in the side to some of our talented youngsters namely the Taverniers of this world et al!

Not convinced about Lo Celso. Whilst he conjures some neat touches and is ok IMO ok is not good enough!

Spurs striving to be within striking distance of Arsenal as usual — and they’ve just achieved it. Plenty more left in the season from where Fulham, West Brom and the rest came from.

The bench was equal part has beens and never weres….that’s the bulk of the squad. Hojbjerg, Lo Celso, Kane , Son and Ndombele if he can get to potential are the only top 6 quality footballers at the club. At least 2 of them will probably be gone soon.

The club is f#@%@d.

Always clutching at straws – “I don’t thinks Spurs deserved to lose”. Who is Mourinho kidding but himself!! A big talking point is why was the much maligned Dier preferred to Toby?
