Morrissey, Victoria Wood, Alan Turing, Caroline Ahern, Can You Hear Me?! Your Boys Took One Hell Of Beating

By The Boy -

Levy will be busy rooting through the Terms & Conditions of his broadcast rights this morning, as the sis likely to become one of the most syndicated games of 2019.

5 goals in 21 minutes set the tone, and I’ll go first with the confession. I’d drunk so much that by the time the 4th goal went in, I’d begun a ritual twitch of my eyes flicking to the top left hand corner of the screen, because I was becoming pretty convinced I was out having a booze fulled out of body experience.

Where to start?

VAR is now the best thing to have happened to the game since half time oranges.

Who needs central midfielders when you’re playing Air Hockey on acid?

Kieran Trippier is still worth his weight in polystyrene chips.

Pray to god the club DON’T release a DVD.

There are few certainties in life, but I’d out the rent on the Premier League version of this game being a somewhat sedate business.

This squad is an underinvested mess and yet it’s a mere 3 hours or so away from a Champions League final.

Pochettino desrves a knighthood.

That’s got to be BS. £150m buys you 2 – 2.5 decent players these days.

Eriksen and Toby will raise £90m alone so I think it’s bogus.

The Mail this morning is reporting that Poch has 150M to revamp the squad, however 90M has to come from sales.Benetez has been offered 50M at Newcastle.Ideal situation would be for Poch to somehow win CL and then walk?
This is the extent of Levy’s fucking ambition.

Just when you thought you were out, they pull you back in. I was getting really hacked off with this season – watching videos of a building site, leaks flooding the new place, and journalists walking round the outside of the stadium doing endless pieces to camera about cladding.

The football has been largely atrocious, and a far cry from the 16/17 season – since when we have been going backwards. We’ve recently dropped 14 points in the league and find ourselves in a mini league – all a bit weird that we start winning again once we move in to the new place.

The city game was both annoying to watch as a spectacle – the opening 20 mins just amateur hour from both teams, Hugo, shit as ever, throughout, and thoroughly satisfying we got the rub of the green for once in a key fixture.

Just on Hugo, what a shit performance. Every time he faced an oncoming player he made the wrong decision. He has and will continue to cost this team success.

Like many of us, I am concerned as to how many players we’re actually going to have fit for this SF and Ajax is going to be a stiff test. It could well be that Liverpool are going to finally exact some revenge (they may have done so already as I don’t know if the clubs have met since) in the final for the 5-1 drubbing (7-3 on agg) they received in 1966 which really first put the Dutch team on the map

I’ll join that list. I think the moment was an interview where he said to the effect of ” I know I’m not the most gifted player but I try to work hard for the team”. I def cursed him out for the liver miss but all in all hes been very good for us this season (partly to do with having literally no other option other then him). But with that said, he’s put in alot of good shifts & we’d be worse without him. Also agree on player ratings I’ve seen. Makes no sense to me. But then again that game is just a blur in my mind & I was actually sober.

Son, too, always seems to be fired up in HK’s absence. Yes, could Sissoko be the new ugly duckling turned swan like Portugal’s Mark Eder, who was always hopeless when I saw him and then scores a superb winner to lift his country to their first pot!

Yes, I do feel that the time has come for some of us (me included!) to be a little kinder towards Sissoko. I think he does give to the cause. I was astonished to read that viewers thought Eriksen second best player in our team last night, giving him a better rating than Bernardo Silva.

Been having terrible trouble getting back onto this website with the new system.

A summary of all our finishes in the last four of cup competitions and top four in the league since our last trophy win, the League Cup in 2007-08.

Premiership: Second once
Third twice
Fourth twice

F.A. Cup: Four semi-finals

League Cup: Two finals
One semi-final

Champions’ league: Semi-final 2018-19.

The CL our 13th such finish; that’s an awful lot of near misses!

No. England can have 5 in the CL. The problem with 4th was only if both the CL and Europa winners were English, and both finished outside the top 4. So 4th is safe for qualifying

ENIC fc really remind me of England in the WC. That bench last night was mind boggling. Championship sides would demand better benches. Was it 2 wins in the group stage? The record v top 8 in Prem is Liverpool:2 defeats. Man Utd 1win 1 defeat, Arsenal 1 defeat 1 draw, City 1 defeat probably 2. Chelsea 1 win 1 defeat , Wolves 1 win 1 defeat, Watford 1 win 1defeat. 4 wins from 14. How this side is in a CL semi final and top 3 in the division is suspect at best.

Sissoko. Hounded out of the Toon and into the Champions league semi finals. Becoming a lynchpin in the midfield. Poch has shown alot of faith in the Frenchman. More than anyone. All I ask is 110% to the cause. He does that. Eriksen? Only half the man.

I thought Benardo Silva caused a few problems coming in from wide on the right with his left foot. I didn’t see Eriksen cause many problems except to our own team when he nearly cost us the match. He must be thinking that was a hell of a let off for him.

We won the tie at home if you ask me. Pep bottled it not playing KDB/Sane and of course Aguero’s soft pen and save shook them. I think we played far more coherently at NWHL too. Overall it was a superb tie for anyone to watch.

Putting a little context on our result over the two legs,we got an important goal at home and prevented them from scoring an away goal. Then we go to the Etihad and score three goals. Not many teams do that?

I wonder how much was in the envelope from Joe and imagine how much it could have improved our squad.
On the assumption we don’t win the CL this year, coming fourth won’t get us in next season if either the Chavs or the Arse win the Europa League will it.

To be perfectly honest, I thought the ball ran kindly for us over the two games and we scored the decisive goal in both games against the general run of play (I had also forgotten about Aguero’s missed penalty!). In the first leg, I felt that Man City were controlling the play- not dominating, to be sure, but comfortably getting the draw with the possibility they might nick it. And then we scored! Last night, given a situation after ten minutes where City had to score three goals, within ten minutes we had conceded two of those goals! Seemed inevitable they’d go on and win and even when we scored our third, there was still plenty of time remaining and 5-3 seemed most likely to me and so much so, that I was quite stoically resigned when they scored what seemed like the winner. I’d have been somewhat less stoic had we succeeded in throwing it away after that goal was disallowed, however! They cut our defence to ribbons really and it highlighted the need for us to go out and get a couple of full backs in the Summer. But we showed plenty of grit and bravery against an expensively assembled side (with Liverpool, probably the best side on the planet at present) playing some good stuff.

Poch got his tactics right resulting in those two early strikes that have got us in the semis, but Beating Ajax is only fifty fifty at best. (Eindhoven gave us a testing time!)

Holy cow. I had to get a mates e-mail just to get on….and you thought you were rid of my bullshit??
Air hockey on acid is very apt. Hollywood productions. I got to thinking….there was a CL advert couple years ago and the picture was a football match between Spurs and Barca. Before the City match I bet on the final being precisely that. Prior to last nights gong show there was the 1stleg, where Pep, who has won everything with City but the CL , which is now the sole reason for him being there, yet he leaves out…Kompany, Stones, De Bruynne, Jesus, Fernadinho, Sane and plays Delph and Gundugan?? Plus adopting a way of playing I’ve never seen Pep in his life utilise….conservative, despite having beat ENIC fc last 2 times. So I won money on 1st leg cos it was fairly clear what was occurring brought to you by BT sports. Then last night the centre half plays a square ball to Son for 1, then gives away the ball for 2, plus 2 VAR farces (Aguero was onside cos it was NOT a forward pass but a deflection, plus he bent his run and was level anyway)and Levy’s on the pitch with his son as if he and he alone is the reason for this victory. Sickly and dispicable. But, perhaps he or Lewis is the reason…? Remember when Arsenal played ball with their big corporate stadium move? What happened? Yes, a Champions League final with…….BARCELONA!?! It a PR wonder strike. Who needs players when you got rengeneration and cashless NFL/events arenas? Rewards! Imagine a CL final or even a win. Levy can dine out on that forever…he would never have to worry about ticket prices or squads again. I thought they were clearing the way for City….but no, its for ENIC fc….Ajax winning at juve? Funny old game. Hahahaaaha!

For the sake of consistency, given that De Gea has been far from his best recently and during the Barca demolition of his team, made a goalkeeping howler, isn’t it about time we claim that he’s finished and should be replaced by his probably much better back up keeper?

Legoverlassarisen

No one can deny the result was beyond expectation but dear oh dear our squad is such a busted flush because of ENIC and Levys total lack of investment. The players deserve to be in a CL semi final and so does Pooch but Enic and Levy most definitely do not. As an aside I will throw up yet again if I see that complete twat Trippier play for us again. Both of Sterlings goals came from him completely losing him and giving him acres of space out wide behind him. Eriksen should go look in the mirror and be ashamed. He just simply isn’t at the club anymore. He may turn up for the semi finals as all the players must now sense an opportunity to get into a CL final. Looking at our squad however it looks shot to pieces. I suspect Ajax will be gald its us they are facing and not City.

Re a previous discussion:

“As of the start of 2014/15,
yellow cards accumulated in UEFA club competitions from the beginning
of the group stage are wiped out upon completion of the quarter-finals.
That means all players left in the competition now have a clean slate,
with the exception of those that incurred a suspension in the
quarter-final second legs and will miss the semi-final first legs.”

Much of what you say is sensible but my point wasn’t on the value or otherwise of tactics or formations, squad rotation and back up players.. Wanyama is patently half the player he was 2 seasons ago. Let’s set aside the rumours on his long term knee injury and say they are scuttlebutt and innuendo. We’ll deal with the actual performances. He was ponderous, clumsy and late to the ball on multiple occasions. A disaster waiting to happen.
I don’t expect world beaters to be filling every place in our squad. I do expect better than a ‘not-up-to-the-task-anymore-as-he’s-clearly-broken’ Wanyama.
If you believe that to be an unreasonable ask then so be it pal or palette

Actually mate, we did have five until Levy took the cash for Dembele in January. Granted, Sissoko was a pointless winger/wide midfielder until Poch had little choice but to play him centrally. And YES, we are talking squad investment. Of the four midfielders you mention, the only one I’d consider with any real future impact to make is Winks. I take your point about squad players, but with 50-plus games a season (and our frankly ridiculous injury record) you can’t afford to have such limited players as the ones we are forced to rely on now. It all depends what you want – compete properly for the league title or just carry on pretending we’re in with a real chance?

He was playing him because Dier, Winks, Kane were out and Alli had a broken wrist. The assumption must be that 3-4-3 was not considered viable, because that was the only way he was not going to play.

You can only have four senior CMs in a squad, after that it is yoof and academy players. It is not Levy’s fault that Dier and Winks are both injured. If you want the number four CM to be much better than Wanyama, you are talking huge squad investments. Or you are relegating Winks and Sissoko to squad level and bringing in two new starters, which costs rather more.

Arsenal’s number four? El Neny.

Fabregas left Chelsea for Monaco because he did not want to understudy Jorginho.

Reality is squad players cannot be superstars. That is why Llorente is Kane’s back up.

The stats say Winks + Sissoko were first choice this season, Dier and Wanyama the back ups.

Jan Vertonghen as emergency cover??

That is just about the only option available….

I said to the wife at half time “well done Poch, bringing on Llorente and completely changing our tactics – what’s he going to do? Deflect one in off his arse?”

We thought Poch had totally lost it, I wanted Jan or Toby in midfield and Sanchez shuffled into the defence.

Well what can you say? The ‘tall man’ got the left buttock deflection and we just had to admit Poch has got it, the magic touch, the gift of foresight – esp when he slips into that all black funeral suit.

Woop Woop! How’d ya like that Noel and Liam?

A glorious defeat that tastes like victory because it was a victory in the end. How very Tottenham. It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. And we at Spurs have set our sights so high that even in failure there will be an echo of glory. Eh Daniel (cough, cough). Unfortunately it was also a victory of sorts for penny-pinching, lack of squad investment and bare-faced gambling on the part of the bald midget. All of which doesn’t bode well for the summer transfer window.

Woke up this morning and had a cold sweat on…the realisation of the event had started to sink in, and then it dawned on me…we have Levy as a chairman and a squad that has now tasted a modicum of glory. I wonder how long before players start to wonder why stay at Spurs when you can feel moments like last night every season instead of once in a lifetime? Then I got the real sick feeling, imagine what Kane is feeling like, watching the lads, a semi final of the CL to play and he will be watching like the rest of us. If they do the impossible (unthinkable) and reach the final, Kane will miss that too. How long before he asks to go to a club where he can get a chance to play in a final? Levy will not pay market rate, he will not invest in the ways we need him to, and we will lose at least 3 of last nights players if not more.
I am bitter at ENIC for turning me into a guy that can see the cloud of every silver lining. The guy that see’s we have made it past just 1 semi final in 20 years.
