Mikel Arteta is much closer to the sack than Nuno Santo but that can quickly change

By Bruce Grove -

On Sunday Tottenham visit Arsenal in a match that could have far-reaching consequences for Spurs manager Nuno Espirito Santo and the Gunners boss, Mikel Arteta.

It is fair to say that both managers are under pressure right now, however, it is Arteta that is much closer to leaving his post at the Emirates than what Nuno Santo is at Spurs, well, according to the bookies that is.

Arteta is favourite to be the next manager to leave with odds as low as 2/1 while Nuno is offered at a low of 16/1 and high as 30/1 to be the next manager gone.

Now, those odds could dramatically change Sunday evening depending on the outcome of the match, for example, if Spurs was to lose 3-0 yet again then you can take it to the bank that the Portuguese boss odds will sink faster than the Titanic and Arteta’s odds will surely rise to double figures.

On the other hand, if Arsenal was to be beaten in their own backyard by Spurs then it would be hard to see how Arteta could survive in his job for much longer.

The bottom line here is that whichever manager loses then it is likely that they could be out of a job sooner than any of us could envisage.

The stakes have probably not been higher for both clubs managers ahead of a North London Derby than they are this week.

this what happens when you try to appease the fans by throwing a bit of cash about, without first researching the characters of the players you buy.

We spent without reasoning rather than spending poorly and cheaply. A lot of us wouldn’t have forgiven paratici if he bought Ben white for £50M ahead of Romero at £42M. Bryan Gil was also a prospect and we gamble nicely on Gollini and Romero to take them on loan with an option to buy. Royal was a good prospect in real betis and play well in Barcelona’s opening games this season though we would have gambled on Takehiro and sell Doherty last summer transfer window.
We have some good players but the problem is we play them out of their favorite positions and wrong training sessions. Example Dele always play well when he’s played behind a striker and not in a central or left midfield position, we can see that he really performed well under poch than the other managers we had after him. Poch has an offensive and attacking football while the rest plays a defensive football style and these players we have are not suited for this style of football. Poch always have a minimum of 3 training sessions per week just to improve the players playing abilities which make us to be competitive against big teams and creating more chances than converting them. IMHO, Ndombele would have played better under Poch than Mourinho or nuno due to his style of football. I hope Nuno finds a solution this and play the players in their desired position or he will be out of job before Oct ending.

Well thats the strangest thing of all… he doesn’t look overweight anymore, but the boy clearly has some sort of mental issues.

I’m old but to boss a game when I was younger meant winning it. The dominant players bossed the game. ‘Bossing a game’ for 20 minutes is boll****. As is our unfit, overweight and overrated Tanguy.

Maureen decided to play Doherty as an orthodox right fullback in that game and he was so out of his depth it was untrue. Doherty offers nothing to improve this side whatsoever, in fact as a fullback he’s probably better suited to the Championship.

Yes but 4231 is played by most teams now and can work without a midfielder dropping into the back four, it’s just the formation but there can be a huge variation in how it’s played.

Tangy is either unfit or just can’t mentally motivate himself to play for 90 mins. I’m not a fan of this 433 thing either…

Frustrating: NDom bossed it for half hour, then nothing. Second half its like he decides he’s had enough and we’re essentially playing with 10 men. Still waiting for Lo Celso to make something that looks like a contribution as well.

I dunno, as a team there’s something there, small sparks of moments where you think we could be good… but then no, you realise we’re not.

If we could play collectively for a whole game like we have for the first half hour of the last 3, just maybe we might get some positive feelings back.

I don’t know what the answer is to make that happen, but unfortunately I’m not sure Nuno does either.

Plus 4231 neither Peh or skipp can drop between/with CBs if we play that which was why Dier had a purple patch whilst in midfield.

I think it’s instructions from Paratici, personally a 3421 or 343 is better for what we have as there seems to be the obsession/stubborness of Deir as a CB which he struggles with let alone if just a pairing.

Im not sure why he’s so obsessed with a 433. Just alter it a bit to suit them to a 4231. It’s not that different but more of a fit for what we have.

That’s also why he got Kane to drop deeper and look for Sonnys runs. Mourinho was desperate for a playmaker

A good 20min start then the entire team switched off again….strange Nuno doesn’t seem to have any control of what’s going on. The link up between midfield and the front is terrible…the movement off the ball over the entire pitch is terrible…you often see a Spurs player with the ball with 3-4 players surrounding him and nowhere to pass…..once the team get into their rut, the defence resort to kicking long balls which NEVER get to one of our own players……I still don’t understand what system he is trying to implement (successfully)…

It’s getting worse as central midfield is more defensive and 2 sit back as holding mids, tangy can’t play that role so Jose didn’t really have that option unless he played winks which I’d say he tried to avoid.

Goons aren’t that good but unfortunately neither are we.

Teams are on a par Sunday, both through poor investment and lack of focus on the playing side of things.
Just wish Nuno would make a system to fit what he has to hand rather than try to get players play a system they’re not suitable for.

The usual doom and gloom I see!

I dont think the result is a foregone conclusion. Just so long as the players dont crumble psychologically like they did against Chelsea, we certainly have a starting 11 that can beat this lot on Saturday.

I mean the goons aren’t that good!

worse than what you imply if you do business well you sign players who are as good or better before we you move on quality so your stars step up their game or move to bench and sell your bottom feeders to smaller clubs.

we sell the big buy medium and keep the bottom feeders

Last season Maureen fielded an attacking lineup in the NLD and the players didn’t turn up at all. It doesn’t matter at this point. The players simply aren’t good enough. A few have a terrible attitude, we all know who they are. We’re gonna lose this one. Go ahead sack him. I don’t care. Nothing will change until 10 players are moved on and we get a quality cb, creative midfielder and a no.10. Effectively replace Jan, Eriksen and Dembele. It all went downhill since they left. The same thing happened when we lost Modric, VDV and even Kranjcar. Jol got sacked shortly after Berbatov was replaced with Frazier Campbell. You replace quality with quality, simple. Anything short of that and here we are.

I’m not sure I agree with the odds for the two managers.Having spent his war chest Arteta is starting to get results and could be on a roll.We on the other hand are doing the complete opposite. We spent poorly and cheaply and now we are showing the results of that neglect. The NLD away is notoriously difficult for us.An embarrasing lose I am afraid.

Spurs have a very disagreeable habit of bailing out other clubs when they are in need of a morale boosting result.

We have struggled at the Emirates with much better performing Spurs teams and I hope a good result against Wolves tonight can spur us on in the NLD.

Arteta has been given a lot more money to improve the team than NES so he should be under pressure. Think we will get stuffed though.
