Matt Doherty isn’t what one might call a fans’ favourite, but it is clear that somewhere in there still exists a half-decent footballer.
In what was a tightly contested 1-1 draw, Doherty was a busy boy, hitting a total successful actions of 74%, which is better than his current average of 66.3%
The Irishman’s passing accuracy was also improved from his norm, the 29-year-old also made 7 successful dribbles as well as making 8 interceptions.
I agree. I’m one of those who watch Ireland. I only saw 2 games missed the Azerbaijan game due to work. But the 2 games I saw he was solid defensively and was a threat going forward. Just a shame we have no natural scorer to help.
Miss the days of Robbie Keane. He just needs a run of games and we’ll see the same player we saw at Wolves and for the irish national team.
You think we have it bad as Spurs fans, try watching Ireland 3 times in one week. Doherty was excellent last night and was very good against Portugal too on the left-hand side. He takes no prisoners and is much better on the ball than I thought. However its the pace of the matches that separates the PL from International football and that’s where Doherty suffers – pace.
