Amid Liverpool’s search for a new manager following Jurgen Klopp’s impending departure, Richard Keys has made an intriguing claim regarding Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou, suggesting that the Australian manager could be a viable option for the Reds.
Postecoglou’s tenure at Tottenham has been marked by notable success since his arrival last summer.
The Australian made an immediate impact, going unbeaten in his first 10 games and securing consecutive Manager of the Month awards.
Despite facing significant challenges, including a string of injuries, Postecoglou has kept Tottenham in contention for a top-four finish in the Premier League.
With Klopp’s departure looming, speculation about his successor at Liverpool has intensified. While Arne Slot has emerged as the frontrunner for the Reds job, Keys has proposed Postecoglou as a compelling alternative.
Speaking about the managerial situation at Liverpool, Richard Keys claimed on beIN Sports that if it were him, he would be going after Ange Postecoglou.
He went on to make a rather interesting revelation that could help Liverpool appoint the Tottenham manager if they wish to do so.
Keys revealed that a move for Postecoglou could be more feasible than initially anticipated, since as per his sources, the Australian’s salary is too low and buy-out clause is not much.
He emphasised that Postecoglou’s availability and the financial aspects of his contract could make him a realistic target for Liverpool in their managerial pursuit.
Keys said:
“I’d go for Postecoglou. The reason I say that is initially I thought it would take too much to get him out. Then I was told that because he was not first choice, his salary is not great and the buy-out is not very big.
“So that would be my preferred choice. I think he would be terrific at Anfield.
“I just didn’t think it would be possible, I couldn’t see Levy letting him go. But I’m told the figures do make sense.”

Despite Keys’ claims, it is almost impossible that Ange will leave Tottenham after just one season, specially given the strong bond he has already developed with the club and the fans.
