Matt Doherty names the Tottenham player that should be on free-kick duties instead of Harry Kane

By Mehdi Gokal -

In an interview with Fantasy Premier League, Matt Doherty discusses the players he would choose for his squad. He names two Tottenham Hotspur players that he believes everyone should sign while also making a significant claim about Harry Kane’s effectiveness on free-kicks.

Dejan Kulusevski and Harry Kane were both selected by Tottenham defender Matt Doherty for his dream team.

Doherty said:

“I’m going to go for Kulusevski, because he’s just so good at football. You can see when we don’t have him, how much we miss him. He just creates an awful lot, crosses into the box, going past people. So dynamic, he makes a huge difference to the team.

“For pure fantasy reasons, whenever he plays he seems to be involved in a goal, in scoring a goal, or making big plays.”

And when picking a forward, Doherty had no hesitation in naming his teammate Kane. However, he did suggest that the Englishman should not be on free-kicks and instead Eric Dier should be taking them. He said:

“Just, his all-around game. He can pass the ball, he can set goals up, he scores tonnes of goals. He’s on penalties, he’s on free-kicks, even though maybe he shouldn’t be… maybe Eric Dier should be on them.”

Harry Kane is not the best option for Spurs when it comes to free-kicks and has a terrible record at free-kick conversion. There are many better options that should be contenders to take over the role including the South Korean superstar Son Heung-min as well as Eric Dier who has been backed by Matt Doherty.
