Matt Doherty didn’t actually have a bad game for Spurs

By The Boy -

This is a headline – that for those that woke up this morning with broken television sets – is unlikely to be received with much warmth. Ketamine Hotspur let us and themselves down yesterday in a match that was mostly unwatchable, unless you were an Everton fan.

So these deeper delves into individual players’ performances are bound to get fans screaming about ‘stats’ not telling the whole story!, which is entirely fair comment, however, you can’t tar everyone with the same brush, no matter how angry you might be.

Matty Doherty is better than yesterday’s game, I speak not just as a seasoned watcher of football, but someone who still hasn’t yet fathomed why Wolves agreed to sell him to us in the first place.

PASSING ACCURACY 85%
AERIAL DUELS WON 50%

The two key areas of weakness were linked to his overall fitness, which we are led to believe by José Mourinho, was down to a COVID-19 outbreak at Hotspur Way, that negated proper training.

DEFENSIVE DUELS 50%
TOTAL SUCCESSFUL ACTIONS 64%

Usmanov has bought naming rights for their stadium to advertise his megafon… But he owns no shares and doesnt have anything to do with the running of everton… The emirates don’t own or run arsenal….. Whoever Levy gets for spurs (maybe amazon) won’t mean much either.. These sponsorship deals are for advertising and don’t amount to much… Same as shirt sponsors, just a little bit more… Usmanov does not own everton. Nor is he investing.

Doherty was a good buy and he showed enough to me yesterday for me to think he’ll do well for us. Hojbjerg needs time. One game isn’t enough for us to judge, but those Southampton fans knew him better than us. He has to develop more to his game than running around and kicking the opposition. Keeping the ball is quite important in football! Both Allan and Doucoure looked better than Hojbjerg, but just a few weeks ago their team was poor. A couple of quality signings can change an attitude and belief of a team. We have yet to make them.

What’s with players need to get fit nonsense? They’ve ALL had enough time to get fit. There’s absolutely no excuse for that performance yesterday. I’m sick of hearing people say “ We can’t play any worse” the players seem to take that as a personal challenge and beat it every time.

There’s not a single player who looks like he wants to play for our club. Is it because they don’t like Jose or perhaps even Levy ? I’ve a feeling it’s a combination of both.

Jose will be gone inside 6 games if we don’t win at least 4 of that 6 Then back down the snake to start all over again……

Son is supposed to pass to him in the box if he is free.
It all went Pete Tong on Sunday.

Did no fans see the exchange with Kane where Pickford got his foot on the shot.
As for PEH same people who had an agenda against him – probably said the same about Bale/Modric/Dembele/Carrick when they started.

Over on SC they’re lighting the torches and grabbing their pitchforks for an on-line lynching. 😆

Lo Celso already has the making of another Lamela with his injury record.Tanguy didn’t move around much in his cameo although he did manage to move the ball forward.

Very poor result but we have good players and it will take time for Doherty and Hojbjerg to hit fitness and form and get used to a new team and system. I can’t understand fans already writing off Hojbjerg,

It’s only one game, the reaction to yesterday’s game is way over the top. If it’s as bad after seven or eight games then we can worry but if we can get Lo Celso and Tanguy playing we’ll look far better.

The thing is, isn’t that what Doherty is supposed to do for Kane, not other way round? Just think what might have been had it been the other way round. Sadly, not enough of our players are at Kane’s level.

This is the risk from taking a player used to playing in a certain system and bringing him into a new team/ system. Hopefully, Jose believes that Doherty can adapt and will. It is probably the same situation for Hojbjerg.

Doherty needs to be played to his strengths and that is with a back three, which is not Mourinho’s style.I hope he doesn’t regret this move.

Yup lovely vision from Kane on a day when he looked disinterested in the second half.I think he can see where this is headed.

Great player who is worth 30 mil surely, double what we paid.. He nearly scored too, was a lovely run. I think he was suprised that Kane managed to put the ball perfectly at his feet. It was a sublime chip over the top straight into his path…. Then there was Pierre…
