Tottenham Hotspur signed Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich during the January transfer window, and they have the option to make the move permanent in the summer.
However, former Tottenham scout Mick Brown has revealed that the player has done nothing to warrant his £50 million price tag, and it seems unlikely that he will be at the club next season.
Brown has revealed that Tottenham might decide to hold talks with German club in order to bring down the asking price. In that case, they might end up signing the player permanently. However, a lot would depend on the club securing champions League qualification.
“From what I hear, I think he’ll be going back to Bayern,” he told Football Insider.
“I don’t doubt in an ideal world they’d want to keep him, but he hasn’t shown enough to warrant that price tag of almost £ 50 million.
“If Tottenham can get into the Champions League, I’m sure he’ll be more likely to want to stick around.
“At the moment though, with their place in the league and the money involved, it’s unlikely.”
It will be interesting to see how the situation develops. The 20-year-old is not a key player for the German club, and he will want to leave them permanently in the summer. He will look to sort out his long-term future and focus on his football. It remains to be seen whether he is keen on joining Tottenham permanently.
The London club have had a disappointing season and they are 16th in the league table. They will miss out on Champions League qualification for the next season unless they win the UEFA Europa League. It will be interesting to see if they can finish the season strongly with a European trophy.
Mathys Tel could be useful in future

Tel is a prodigious young talent with a bright future, and he could be a key player for Tottenham in the long term. He is still getting to grips with English football, and he might be able to showcase his true qualities next year.
Tottenham need more quality in the attack, and keeping the young attacker at the club could be beneficial if a reasonable deal can be agreed upon. He will add pace, technical ability and unpredictability to the Tottenham attack. He is also versatile enough to operate anywhere across the front three.
