Many Tottenham players ‘would happily play’ for English manager next season

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur decided to part ways with Antonio Conte earlier this season after a series of poor performances and the Italian manager’s public outburst.

They decided to appoint former midfielder Ryan Mason as the interim manager until the end of the season and they are thought to be looking at potential long-term replacements now.

Tottenham have been linked with managers like Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique in recent weeks. It will be interesting to see who comes in as the permanent replacement for Conte in the coming weeks.

According to a report from Football London, Mason is prepared to take over the job on a full-time basis but he is unlikely to get that opportunity. Tottenham are looking at more proven options right now.

The report further states that many of the players at the club ‘would happily play’ for the English manager next season.

The former Tottenham midfielder has certainly lifted the spirits around the club since coming in and he could develop into a quality manager in the near future. However, appointing him as the permanent replacement for Conte right now could prove to be a major gamble.

Tottenham have lost out on Champions League revenue and they cannot afford to stay outside the top four for another season. They need a proven manager who can get them back into the Champions League and help them challenge for trophies.

Top-class players like Harry Kane are considering their features at the club and hiring a proven winner could convince the 29-year-old to continue at Tottenham beyond this season. Mason is still unproven at the highest level and he would prove to be an underwhelming appointment.
