Maddison reveals what impressed him most about 2024 Tottenham arrival vs Everton

Tottenham star James Maddison was delighted to see summer signing Wilson Odobert do the ‘dirty work’ against Everton.

After a slow start to the Premier League season with a 1-1 draw against newly promoted Leicester City, Tottenham bounced back with an incredible 4-0 win against Everton. It was a complete team performance which resulted in a significant amount of praise for Ange Postecoglou and his men.

Wilson Odobert made his Tottenham debut in their 4-0 win with Dominic Solanke out injured. While Postecoglou could have gone ahead with Richarlison as the number nine, he decided to start Son Heung-min up top and hand the 19-year-old left-winger his much-awaited debut. The former Burnley attacker managed to live up to the expectations and Spurs’ attacking midfielder James Maddison was delighted with his performance.

While speaking on Sky Sports after Saturday’s win, Maddison said (h/t TBR): “Wilson was a real threat in that first half, he had the bit between his teeth to show the Tottenham fans what he was about.

“But he also did the dirty work, you have to do that for Ange Postecoglou. So it’s a good sign.”

Odobert was a constant threat for the defenders coming in from the left flank. His pace and his ability to run at the defenders were causing all sorts of problems. Apart from his dribbling abilities, Maddison has praised his efforts on the pitch.

The England international was delighted to see that the 2024 summer signing is willing to do the ‘dirty work’ which is a must under Postecoglou.

While he has the potential to be a special player because of his abilities on the ball and his understanding of the game, his desire to work hard for his teammates and defend with everything he has is what stands out for Maddison.
