Tottenham Hotspur offered Lucas Bergvall significant wages to lure him to the club amidst interest from Barcelona.
The North London club managed to acquire the services of Swedish sensation Lucas Bergvall during the January transfer window. The teenage midfielder will be joining the Premier League outfit in the summer.
Spurs managed to strike a deal with Djurgården despite a lot of interest from clubs across Europe and according to Fotboll Direkt, Tottenham offered significant wages to the teenager to ensure they come out on top in his pursuit.
Bergvall’s impressive rise at Brommapojkarna and his performances since making the move to Djurgården had attracted a lot of attention. Barcelona were one of the clubs keen on having him in their ranks. The Catalan giants pushed hard to sign the Swedish sensational who is considered to be a huge prospect. But, they came up short against the North London club.
While Djurgården official Peter Kisfaludy has insisted that the player has not picked Spurs over Barcelona for money, the report by Fotboll Direkt has highlighted the fact that Tottenham have flexed their financial muscles to land him at the cub.
The 18-year-old will earn a significant wage at the English club. While it was earlier suggested that he would earn SEK 18 million per year (around €1.5 million), the actual amount is on the higher side. Bergvall will actually be earning SEK 22 million per year (around €1.8 million).
It might not be a huge package in terms of the Premier League standards but it is surely a significant payout for someone coming from the Swedish league. Moreover, the offer surely helped Spurs lure the teenager to the club even if his decision might not have been motivated by the financial side of things.
