Player being targeted by opponents because he signed for Tottenham

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur managed to secure the signing of Swedish sensation Lucas Bergvall just as the January transfer window was drawing to a close.

Spurs sealed a five-year deal to bring the midfielder from Djurgardens IF, reportedly for €10 million.

Bergvall will remain at his current club until the end of the season before linking up with the Lilywhites in July.

Nevertheless, with the significant move comes the inevitable challenges, which the teenager has already begun to encounter.

Lucas Bergvall has got a target on his back since signing for Tottenham

In a recent interview with Fotbollskanalen (via Sport Witness) Bergvall revealed that opposition players have begun singling him out since his notable move to the Premier League.

The 18-year-old admitted that the focus on him has increased since his transfer, as opponents seek to target him much more because of the perceived pressure linked with a high-profile move.

He acknowledged that he has experienced rough treatment on the field, especially since signing with Tottenham.

He said:

“Yes, of course it has become more. Absolutely. People probably want to push me now that I’ve signed for Tottenham. But that’s how it’ll be. You just have to get used to it. It won’t be less in the future.”

When asked to elaborate on the Spurs part, he said:

“I’m young and there are a lot of people who like to hit me, when a player has been sold for a lot of money.”

Despite the challenges, the youngster has continued to showcase his talent in Allsvenskan, captivating spectators with outstanding performances.

He’s been in remarkable form, scoring four goals and providing four assists in his nine appearances for Djurgardens this year.

It has been reported that the Tottenham staff have been left hugely impressed with the youngster and they plan on integrating him to the first-team next season instead of sending him out on loan.
