Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall is so badly injured that he is expected to be out for two to three months. Sweden will face Ukraine in the playoff semi-final on March 26, and the squad will be selected on March 18.

According to Fotbollskanalen, Bergvall will not be ready for Sweden’s World Cup playoff. Tottenham midfielder Bergvall has had problems after an injury against Bournemouth, but was back from the start against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday…

Lucas suffered a significant ankle/lower leg injury during their 2-0 Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund on January 20/21, 2026.

He was forced off in the second half after a challenge (reportedly involving Emre Can stepping on his ankle), and initial assessments indicated it was a contact injury.

Even then, he had to come off after an hour of play, with another blow. The news after that is said to be grim, and that he is out for the foreseeable future. Tottenham needed him in the game due to the club’s injury crisis, but it ended badly.

This would keep him out until roughly March/April 2026, potentially causing him to miss the remainder of the current season phase and even Sweden’s World Cup playoff games in March. Tottenham has a growing injury list, and this is seen as a major blow to their midfield options.

This appears to be a fresh setback, as Bergvall had only recently returned from prior issues (including one against Bournemouth earlier in January).

Official club confirmation might come soon via Thomas Frank (noted as Tottenham’s head coach in recent reports) or team updates, but as of the latest news from January 21-22, 2026, the 2-3 month timeline is the prevailing report from numerous reliable outlets and fan sources aggregating Swedish media.

Whatever the specifics are, this is terrible news for Tottenham and another headache for Thomas Frank, who now has EIGHT first-team players out.
