‘Looks like he’s had an arm around him’ Tim Sherwood is enjoying Spurs new style

By Mehdi Gokal -

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood praised midfielder Yves Bissouma for his improved performance under manager Ange Postecoglou.

After a challenging debut season at Spurs due to injuries and tactical adjustments, Bissouma has emerged as a key player under the new manager.

The former Brighton man has been immense in the midfield and was once again solid during the 2-0 win against Manchester United.

Speaking live on Sky Sports before the United game, Sherwood noted that Bissouma seems to have received support from the manager and is now thriving on the pitch.

He praised Bissouma’s ability to break lines with simple passes and his energy in retrieving the ball quickly and distributing it effectively to teammates.

He said (via TBR):

“Looks like Ange wants to play on the front foot. Bissouma looks like he’s had an arm around him and been told by the manager that you’re part of the plans and just go and get on the football, which is what he does.”

“It’s simple passing we see but that is what I like, he breaks lines. He’s a good dribbler, needs to work on that final pass. But all energy, gets the ball back quickly and gives it to players who can play. He’s a very good addition who they already had and he’ll save them spending a lot of money on another average player.”

Bissouma’s revitalised presence in the midfield is seen as a valuable addition to Tottenham’s squad.

Spurs have a solid midfield trio in Bissouma, James Maddison and Rodrigo Bentancur who is currently injured.

He was probably Tottenham’s best player last season before his injury. Once he is back, Bissouma and Bentancur could form a formidable partnership in the Tottenham midfield.

In the meantime, 20-year-old Pape Matar Sarr could be filling in regularly to partner Bissouma after his impressive performance against United.

The Tottenham youngster put in a flawless performance and even scored the opener to help Spurs win their first game of the season.
