Lineker has his say as Spurs and England fight over Harry Kane playing

By Bruce Grove -

The Guardian claims that England and Tottenham have opposing views when it comes to Harry Kane’s fitness as Gareth Southgate looks set to start him against Denmark.

The club feels that their captain isn’t fit enough to start the game and that he might aggravate his injury, but Southgate, who brought Kane on as a substitute against Belgium in England’s last game believes that the striker is fit enough to lead the line against Denmark.

Fingers are crossed as fans don’t know exactly what to expect ahead of the match against the Danes.

Gary Lineker, however, suggests that both the club and country should put their opinions aside and ask the striker if he wants to play or not.

He tweeted that it was understandable that Jose Mourinho will want Kane to miss the game, but the striker, like most footballers, wants to play for their national team all the time.

That is fine for Lineker to say that, however, Kane is not self-employed, he is not free to make his own decisions when it comes to playing, that is down to those that actually pay him his wages.

With Kane’s injury history it is madness to risk him and Spurs are absolutely justified in their stance. Lineker can talk about self-interest all he wants but his tune would certainly be a lot different if he was a club manager, something he has never been.

Harry is the last person to ask.He would say he’ll play even if he is laid up in bed with two broken legs.

Lineker talks too much, I’m fed up with reading his opinions tbh. Besides England don’t need him, they’ve got loads of quality strikers.

I would ask the question, does he need to play ?
I don’t think they need him to start, surely they have in form strikers already in Calvert Lewin and Ings , there is absolutely no reason to risk him.
Southgate the wimp, should be thinking long term not the next game, no wonder they don’t win tournaments.

stuff Lineker and his opinions. Kane should not be picked if he is not 100% fit .End of.
