“Ligament damage and fracture”- Injury expert fears ‘setback’ for 25-year-old who is out for longer than expected

By Mehdi Gokal -

Injury expert has claimed that Tottenham goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman may have suffered a setback in his recovery from an ankle injury,

The 25-year-old suffered a serious ankle injury in the open training in Singapore during the pre-season and reportedly had to be stretchered off,

He was forced to go under the knives to treat the injury and Spurs even confirmed that the player had a successful surgery. He has been in recovery since then.

As per injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar, Whiteman should have been back by now since it typically takes three months to recover from this, and suggested that his prolonged absence indicates that the player suffered a setback during his recovery.

Speaking to the Tottenham News, Dr Brar said:

“Considering the length of his time out, my educated guess is that he had an unstable high ankle sprain injury, which involves ligament damage and a fracture, enough that requires surgery to stabilise.

“These typically takes over three months to return from. He’s probably suffered a setback, which is why he continues to be ruled out.“

He signed a new contract back in February which is set to expire in the summer of 2025. He has always been a back up keeper for Spurs, making only one appearance for the first-team which came against Ludogorets back in 2020. Jose Mourinho brought him for the last 8 minutes as he replaced Joe Hart during their 4-0 win.

This injury setback is not one that impacts Ange significantly since he has Vicario between the sticks and Fraser Forster in back up.

Ange’s focus will be on the game against Manchester City this week as he will hope to find a way to beat the incredibly strong Guardiola side with a team marred with injuries.
