Levy to turn to previous managerial candidate after Conte failure

After talks with Antonio Conte broke down, The Sun says Daniel Levy is back sifting through his original targets.

He had originally wanted the likes of Brendan Rodgers, Julian Nagelsmann and Erik ten Hag.

The trio looked unattainable and Spurs even turned to their former manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

PSG is also not prepared to lose their manager and that forced Spurs to look towards Antonio Conte.

Now that talks with the former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss look dead in the water, the report says Levy is returning for Ajax manager, ten Hag.

He has just signed a contract extension with the Dutch giants which should push him out of reach to Spurs or at least difficult to appoint.

But the report says that isn’t enough to deter Levy and he would still raid the Dutch giants to get his man.

Ten Hag is one of the highest-rated managers around the world as he continues to make Ajax the biggest club in the Netherlands.

He helped them reach the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2019 and saw his best players get sold.

Yet he still built a team that won the Dutch league last season.

His team also plays an exciting attacking brand of football that Tottenham fans would love to watch.

I have supported Spurs for many a year now and have always tried to see the best in people but I’m afraid this time round I’m struggling to come to terms with what is happening to my club.
I am a ST holder and paid for my seat many weeks ago but this sh1tfest we are witnessing is enough to test anyone’s patience.
The search for a new manager has gone from the sublime to the ridiculous. In recent days I have likened it to when I was a kid and went to the fair and went on the ‘hook-a-duck’. Now instead of me it’s Levy except this time he’s wearing a blindfold. FFS get it sorted.

I would take Ten Hag. Plus throw in a sweetener and try and get overmas as his director of football. ( I’m aware of the arsenal connection and he might take it for that reason alone).

Or get van der sar to run the day to day footballing side of the club and leave levy to the business side. I can deal with that.

Considering what ajax have done in the last 5 years or so, with a CL semi’s and an Europa league final, with a significant smaller transfer budget, and bringing youth through its the long term project and direction we need as a club.

Plus the sale on values ajax have received for their players would also suit levy’s eye for a bargain and profit margins.

Sanchez 40+m (paid 5m from Atletico Nacional)
De ligt 80+m
De Jong 75+m (paid 1m from Willem ii)
Ziyech 40+m (paid 11m from Twente)
Kluivert 18m
Van de beek 40m
Dolberg (free from Silkeborg)

With profit like that and give the money to someone who understands the game, and can get the right players the manager wants then there’s no excuses for us to compete and win things.

Just be grateful that it doesn’t appear likely that even Levy might appoint that wazzock Southgate.

Why would ten hag come to Tottenham London in the premiere league? Your going on like he’s pep.
He’s lucky to be given the opportunity too.

Levy is deluded. Why would Ten Hag come to Spurs in light of current events and information? He can stay at Ajax for another 3 years, build his reputation and WIN STUFF and then get a job somewhere at a top club that isn’t going to put him in a straight jacket.

I don’t think hiring a manager means giving him Joe’s bank details….are you 8 years old?

It’s like Levy won’t do what is wrong for the club by appointing a manager to bankrupt us!

I watched the final last night of the under 21s Euros between Germany and Portugal. The German coach by the name of Kunz might be a good candidate. It was a good game which a physically stronger Germany beat a technically impressive Portugal. The German goal scorer is on Man City’s books and looked very good.
I was wondering as I sat slumped in my armchair whether any members of our renowned scouting team had been sent to watch any of the games. It’s a great tournament for spotting new talent. I feel sure that Hitchen must have favoured Slovenia with a visit.

The jig is up and it’s game over for Levy. No amount of packaging and spin to introduce anyone else after the Conte fiasco will repair the collateral damage of the fact that Conte’s ambition as an outsider for the club was greater than that of the owners. The Levy shuffle to entice season ticket holders to purchase before the 3rd June deadline with the promise of Conte and “money for players” from an unidentified source has exploded over his shining dome like a flatulent Mr. Creosote. No apology for the ESL debacle, the sacking of Mourinho to save money instead of ambition to win only the second trophy in 20 years, the farce in the press of our search for a new manager with so many declining, and then the Conte statement that the club does not have enough ambition for him. It’s done, Daniel. You are done. You are now very much the man in the spotlight and what everyone is seeing is quite frankly not a pleasant sight. No amount of sticking plaster will cover this up anymore.

I’ve never felt more bored and disinterested in our club. We are 100% the Newcastle of the South. We just need a black n white kit and the transformation is complete!

What do we do?

On England. You got a team that can’t score from open play to save their lives. The only danger they produce is from set plays….and Southgate leaves out the ONLY player who can deliver a quality ball….Ward Prowse. Yesterday it was the one danger the team had.

This only goes to prove teams are pre determined to win. He’s picked a squad to blow it. Either that or he’s got the brains of a cardboard box.

Germany for me to win in Lovs last hurrah.

Last girl at the disco you might have a chance with, or girl you knew from way back who you always liked, recently had a fling because she promised you a good time but ultimately failed to live up to promises and wasn’t actually much different to the Ogre you pulled before?

I think the window of interest on Spurs’ next manager has definitely closed. With the Euros starting I’m going to enjoy hearing “Tottenham’s Harry Kane” for the last summer. I’ll switch the Spurs newsfeed back on at the end of July.

Ten Hag would probably be a decent Manager for Spurs… but my faith in Levy being ‘able to reel in the manager he wants’ isn’t that high right now.
