Levy asking a reported £38M has slowed one exit out of Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre Emile Hojbjerg has been strongly linked with a move away to Atlético Madrid all summer.

The Spanish club has been engaged in talks with Tottenham for most of the summer but has yet to come to an agreement over the fee for the player. According to a previous report from Marca, the player is keen to make the move to the La Liga side, but Atlético has not been able to convince Daniel Levy with their offer yet.

As per the latest update on the transfer, according to Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet, Hojbjerg is ‘now close to a move’ to Diego Simeone’s side, despite Tottenham having initially sought some £38 million for the Dane.

While the clubs are still in the process of negotiating the fee for the Danish international, the report claims that Atlético Madrid will need to submit a bid ranging from €29.5 million to €32.2 million to secure his services.

Italian journalist Matteo Moretto had previously reported that Atlético’s initial €20 million bid was rejected a couple of weeks ago.

The onus now falls on Atlético Madrid to present an improved offer of at least €30 million to finalise the deal, according to Ekstra Bladet. Hojbjerg is said to have agreed to personal terms with the Spanish club and is eager to “test his skills” in a new league.

The timing of Koke’s hamstring injury in the Spanish side’s season opener against Granada, which will sideline him for at least three games, could potentially prompt the club to intensify their efforts in securing Hojbjerg as a reinforcement in the midfield.

As the transfer window’s closing date looms, both clubs are under pressure to reach a resolution and secure Hojbjerg’s potential move to La Liga.
