#LetFansIn Initiative Is One Of The Most Ill-conceived Ideas Of All Time

By The Boy -

The argument as to why fans ought to be allowed back into stadiums is a simple one and Adrian Durham’s impassioned plea sounds great, but is not only devoid of awareness, but is not shared by most fans.

To date the petition to #LetFansIn is currently has less than 150,000 signatures. Which for a sport followed by hundreds of millions is poor.

The management of COVID-19 has been catastrophic for the economy and while advice from the British government continues to claim that it is following the science, a colossal number of businesses are heading towards bankruptcy at varying speeds.

Public houses are a good yardstick for the next steps football stadiums might take. Regrettably, they have largely become sterile, muted places attended only by a few hardcore regulars.

If and when fans do eventually return to stadiums, their behaviour will need to be so heavily monitored and that outcome is highly likely to dissuade many from bothering a second time.

Whoever dreamt up this petition may as well start another to bring back smoking cigarettes; on the basis that some people felt really cool holding one.

Wrinkly Hart Lane lol.
It’s the over 70’s who are most vulnerable along with those with conditions like diabetes and asthma. Not worth the risk.
With stupid pricing policies the clubs are cutting their own throats.

Even under the draconian regulations being enacted by this minimally competent apology for a government, it is possible to have the stadium at least 25% full and still maintain ‘correct’ social distancing. This is the standard now being worked towards even in the USA, for the NFL, until such time as a vaccine is available or the virus naturally peters out.

I believe there is a considerable swathe of the population, given a power of choice currently being denied them by central governments around the globe, who would choose to exercise their right to liberty over involuntary exclusion and statutory incarceration and attend matches, responsibly maintaining the appropriate protocols, rather than being cowed by media induced fear. I am one of them.

Maybe booze free re-admissions might be a starting point for football matches?

No singing and no shouting.

All for £70.

I think I’d rather go to church.

Correct, we should let the kids in and get the herd immunity going.

they couldnt, and I wouldnt advocate it at all, but just saying, if losing football for a year got the world turning how it used to, I would take it.

Actually one of the major problems is that fans are not of a younger age. Young fans have been priced out of a lot of grounds and it is very hard to get a new season ticket. I’d say the average age where I sit is 55-60 with very few under 30

Not sure many clubs/businesses will survive a whole year without any trad€. Its a difficult one. Good thing people ain’t looking to me for the answers.

I think the cinemas are a better yardstick here. You could watch a film at home, but you go for the experience. football is similar. Cinemas are now looking at closing, even films that would usually be box office draws are lucky if they top out 10 people going. Stadiums on one hand are better as they are out doors, on the other hand are worse, as shouting increases virus spread. the whole idea is basically “we want our luxuries back”. Many have the view “less than 1% have it, so why should I suffer” the issue is, that thousands have died, many have lost livelyhoods and the world is basically shut down. in the grand scheme of things, I would rather lose football for a year if it meant covid went away tomorrow. So to allow people into stadiums for no real gain is ludarous.

Can you imagine 62,000 fans all wearing face masks mumbling COYS. Would sound interesting! It’s currently too risky to even contemplate. Okay the fans themselves are mostly of a younger age, but the problem lies in them potentially taking the disease home and passing it on to older or more vulnerable members of the family. Especially with winter coming, there’s no way the government are going to take the risk and then take the blame. Besides we’re doing okay with the fans at home.

Less than one% of the population have covid. 99% ain’t. Why should we suffer? If trump can survive it (old and over weight) I’m fancying my chances. Open the floodgates. the NHS are ready this time. Good luck everyone🌚. Oh and stay away from my old mum
