Leeds United wanted another Tottenham player as part of Archie Gray deal but Spurs swiftly turned it down

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham are close to finalising the permanent signing of Leeds United’s promising young talent, Archie Gray.

Spurs defender Joe Rodon, who spent the previous season on loan at Elland Road, is set to return to Leeds for a fee of £10 million.

Football London’s Alasdair Gold revealed that Leeds also showed interest in including another Tottenham player, Oliver Skipp, in the deal for Gray.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke, who worked with Skipp during their Championship-winning campaign at Norwich City in the 2020-21 season, is a known admirer of the midfielder.

During that season, the Englishman was included in the 2021 PFA Team of the Year due to his impressive performances.

Despite Leeds’ interest, Spurs reportedly have no intention of parting ways with the 23-year-old as part of this transfer negotiation.

Although Skipp faces stiff competition for a spot in Tottenham’s midfield and had limited appearances last season under Ange Postecoglou, the club values his potential and contribution.

Last season, he made 24 appearances across all competitions, starting only seven games and playing around 900 minutes.

Since joining the Lilywhites in 2008, Skipp has come up through the youth ranks and established himself as a reliable squad player for the first team.

He signed a new five-year contract with the club in April 2022, keeping him at the club until 2027.

Tottenham’s decision to reject Leeds’ approach for Skipp reflects their strategic plan to retain key players while strengthening the squad with new talent like Archie Gray.
