With the news breaking that technical analyst Ricardo Formosinho is leaving Tottenham to pursue a role as head coach, this apparently leave the door open for fresh blood. It was Matt Law for The Telegraph that first broke the story that Ledly King could be the new man to join Jose’s team.
Now, given the dull dinosaur abuse wheeled out to the gaffer (some examples below, for you) by fans of all clubs, it places these knowledgable critics in an awkward spot when a retired player, as universally respected as Ledders is suddenly called up again.

The problem with name calling is that it’s incredibly rare that anyone ever hangs about to substantiate their catcalling. In fact, it’s a lot like litter dropping, has anyone ever paused to ‘explain’ why they needed to hurl a fast food wrapper from a car window into a hedgerow? No, they haven’t.
Ledley King isn’t a dinosaur, he’s forgotten more about defending that most people will ever learn. If was in a position to share with our current squad (hey Serge, how are you?!) then that would be a great thing.
Mourinho isn’t a dinosaur any more than Ferguson, Clough or Shankly were.
This appointment would be brilliant for Spurs and humiliate a good few no-things in the process. Win-win.

“If you don’t win anything then you’ve had a bad season’ ‘
19 years of ENIC’s time we have won nothing, managers change but it’s the same old thing. False dawn after false dawn, this is no different. Why the f*ck would it be?
I see why some don’t like the idea of ‘results over beautiful football’.. But all his teams in full flow have been direct and flowing and rather beautiful in my opinion.. Apart from Sir Alex and Pep and a (hungarian guy I think) noone has won more than Maureen… He went to Madrid and won the title with a record points tally, plus a couple more pots. His intense rivalry ended pep. Two years and he was done. Pep quit Barca because of the stress. Maureen dethroned him. Pep then took a year out to recover. There was near brawls…. Maureens transfers were blocked at united. He gave woodward targets, who then said no and bought his own players. He wasnt backed, yet still won 3 pots and got united up to second… Ole has won nothing with a slightly improved team after signing the likes of maguire (whom was a maureen target but declined)… Before that Maureen won the league with the chavs. In the world of pep and klopp he is one of the few who has the ability to challenge them. There is alot more to his tactics than sitting back and being pragmatic. He’s constantly making slight adjustments. Tweaking instructions and formations according to the opposition is fascinating…… Alot of our rubbish football is down to our players. Many of our squad are simply not good enough…. As Bill Nicholson would say ‘Spurs have to be the best in the land, not second best’.. “If you don’t win anything then you’ve had a bad season’ ‘ anyone signing must be dedicated and must hate losing’….. The glory of the game is in winning. There is nothing ‘beautiful’ about a few fancy flicks and passes if you get smashed most weeks and never win anything. There is nothing beautiful about losing consistently for 20 years. Anyone saying we produce beautiful football is having a laugh. The winning teams are always pure beauty. We haven’t been this for a long time.
Fair point but the effectiveness of his approach has undergone a steady decline over the last 5-10 years. He couldn’t get the better of Pep in Spain and since then others with the pressing game have gradually taken over in terms of success at the top level.
He won the Ropey at Utd and a cup wasn’t it after spending an absolute fortune? For Utd that’s not the level they aim to be at, so he got the sack. Ole has the same team higher up the league than Jose and the guy is hardly a managerial genius.
If people can guarantee that his tactics will bring success to Spurs then letting the opposition have the ball and playing on the break will have to do. The point is, nobody can guarantee that, especially with Levy about. So all this stuff about this pragmatic defensive style suddenly being foolproof route to big things is mainly wishful thinking on the part of many.
If we are going to mess about with Levy for another 10 as the “ENIC are going nowhere” mob might rightly say, then I’d rather be entertained. Against Leicester we had 29% of the ball at home, ok we won but we also won under other managers having lots of the ball. So I’m not sure where this whole argument is going.
All I know is that the Spurs home crowd have standards as to the way we approach the game and the way we play. Over the years at the Lane I witnessed and was part of this and I’ve been to the new place and watched Maureen’s Spurs and honesty, everyone around me look bored senseless, we drew 1-1 I think. I was such a non-event that I barely remember anything about it, part from Bergwyn scoring.
It’s not for me but if it guarantees success then great but let’s be honest, in the world of Pep, Klopp et al will it? Really?
Being good at something does not mean you can teach it, especially if your ability is more natural than learned.
Jose’s legacy will be turning Spurs into winners.
Porto, Chelsea, Inter, Real, Utd wont even come into it.
COME ON YOU SPURSSSSS
Well said
One of the best defenders if his generation, one has to wonder why somebody of Kings pedigree has been left faffing around in an ambassadorial role for nearly 10 years.
This is wonderful news. King and Sanchez are going to make sweet sweet love together.
The mainstream media journos have been churning out the old ‘dinosaur’ simile since forever…. Dinosaurs don’t exist anymore so i always thought it was rather rubbish.. If Maureens tactics were seriously outdated then he wouldn’t have won anything the past 5 or ten years… But he has.
Regardless of if you feel Jose’s methods are outdated or not, I’m not sure what Ledley’s move into coaching at the club has to do with it. Ledley joining the backroom staff doesn’t automatically endorse Jose’s approach.
Ledley wants to learn from a very successful and experienced coach and will probably work under several if that’s his new career path, I just don’t see how this makes Jose any less or more of a’dinosaur’. The two are separate things completely.
I have seen some GREAT defenders at my club including Goughy and one whose name I cannot even spit out and Ledley (the) King is right up there.
“José (the winner) aint right for the club😂😂. Ledley. The time has come. Go show dem who’s king of this defending ting.
