Leaving Tottenham is no guarantee of trophies for Harry Kane

By Bruce Grove -

Harry Kane has been warned that leaving Tottenham for Manchester United would not guarantee him trophies.

The Spurs captain has been linked with a move to some of the world’s best teams, including Barcelona, as he continues to prove his worth in the north London side.

He has been tipped to leave Jose Mourinho’s side in search of trophies in the future and he claimed earlier in the year that he would leave the team if they don’t match his ambition in terms of winning trophies.

Manchester United has been one of the teams linked with signing him and the Red Devils have been urged to make their move for him because he would complete their team.

However, former Tottenham star, Jamie O’Hara has warned the England striker that leaving Spurs would not guarantee him winning anything.

He claimed that the striker can remain at Spurs and win nothing, yet he would retire with a great legacy, or he can leave the club to Manchester United and still win nothing.

“With Harry Kane, yes, he needs to win trophies, he’s one of the best strikers in the Premier League and he’s Spurs’ best player,” said the former midfielder, as quoted by TalkSport.

“But I’m a little bit on the fence with saying ‘you’ve GOT to leave to win trophies if you’re a top player’.

“It’s also about leaving a legacy in the game.

“For me, there are so many brilliant players who haven’t won loads of trophies but have left a legacy [at a club] that lasts a lifetime.

“If Harry Kane leaves Tottenham it might not work out. He might go to Manchester United and he might not win anything.

“He could win something at Spurs but even if he doesn’t he’s going to be regarded as one of the best and most loyal footballers to have ever been at that club.”

Of course you can never be certain but just look at Kyle Walker. There is zero doubt in my find, backed up by strong evidence from the last decade, that Levy’s bizarre self harming approach has cost us multiple trophies. The reason being that the squad is never strong enough in depth to withstand the latter period of a season following injuries, suspensions etc. This is the reason Poch left of course, no manager no matter how good will be able to cope with the world’s most miserly chairman.
This season it hit us even earlier than usual. It’s a snowballing effect as players become injured through too much game time then it spreads slowly to the entire squad. In most cases you can’t solve the problem with kids off the bench either. If Levy had invested a bit more in the squad then there would be trophies in the cabinet right now.

How many players of Kane’s calibre have never won anything, which is where he’s at? Lots of players with very little (Lineker, Shearer). Le Tissier was a player, nearly signed for us, who comes close, but Southampton were hardly in a position to compete. If Kane went to a big European club he’d win loads.

One man club legends, Bobby Charlton, Matt Le Tissier, which one will Harry be most like? Like Charlton winning almost every prize the game has to offer or Le Tissier a club legend but not one trophy to his name. My guess is that club legend might appeal to Jamie O’Hara but it would be cold comfort to Harry to finish with loads of personal records, Golden Boots, Player of the Year etc but no silver ware.
