Real Madrid have reportedly joined the race to sign Tottenham’s striker Harry Kane in the summer.
According to the Daily Mail, the Spanish giants have expressed interest in the England captain and are “monitoring” his situation.
This latest development comes as a blow for Manchester United, who have been keen on signing the striker.
However, it is believed that Madrid have an advantage over United as they are more likely to get a pre-contract deal done next January in case Kane does not sign a new contract with Tottenham.
Bayern Munich are also interested in the striker with their CEO and manager previously publicly expressing their admiration for him and their desire to replace Lewandowski with him.
Madrid believes that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy would prefer to sell Kane abroad, which may work in their favor.
Furthermore, if Madrid replaces Carlo Ancelotti with former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, it may further increase their chances of securing the striker’s signature.
Kane has been one of the best strikers in the world. He has scored 270 goals and assisted 63 in 424 appearance in all competitions for Tottenham, becoming their all time top scorer. It is no surprise that several top European clubs are interested in him.
The Spurs captain has expressed his desire to win major titles, and Tottenham’s exit from all competitions this season may further increase his desire to leave.
However, the striker has a contract with Tottenham until 2024, and it remains to be seen if he will leave the club this summer.
