La Liga star has ‘said no’ to Spurs following phone call but only ‘for now’

By Mehdi Gokal -

Barcelona forward Memphis Depay has reportedly said no to Tottenham, according to reports from Spain.

Spanish outlet, Sport, reports that the priority for Depay was to stay at Barcelona but he knows he will find it tough to get regular minutes and hence, is willing to listen to offers. However, it reports that ‘today he has said no to Tottenham’s interest as he prefers to explore’ other options.

It is clarified that the Dutch international ‘received the call from Tottenham a few days ago’, asking about his situation. Spurs have not made an official offer to Barcelona yet but ‘spoke with the player’, with the club’s permission.

Memphis was not interested in the offer though and ‘has ruled out Tottenham for now’, although if a better ‘concrete’ offer is made, he might reconsider. The reason for his reluctance to join Spurs as reported is that the player wants to be in a team ‘that can win titles’.

The former Manchester United man made a move to Barcelona from Lyon last summer but with just one year left on his contract and with the addition of Lewandowski, the club are looking at cashing on him now if a good offer comes.

I think that’s why he turned us down.

Can’t see himself in our 1st team.
Which says more about him.

Definitely not the type of player we need.

Maddison now or cheaper in Jan will be perfect.
I would go 45- 50 now or 30- 35 in Jan.

I would imagine he wants to come now, but how gready will Leicester be?

He’s poor. Couldn’t do much in a two-team league and was woeful at manure. We should be doing way better than this wastrel.

Depay will end up at some mid table French or Spanish side, or go for a big payday in the middle east.

Everyone wants to be in a team that can win titles. This kid wouldn’t even be at Barca if he wasn’t Dutch, he’s there because of Koeman – which was perfect really, a mediocre manager and a mediocre player. At least Koeman was world class as a player, this overrated clown Depay needs a dose of reality…he wouldn’t get in our first XI.

Just Googled Damiao to see what happened to him. It seems he became a bit of a journeyman, including just 3 appearances at Real Betis. Bullet well and truly dodged, and likewise for Depay.

Exactly. This is good news.

If this is true I think I am safe to say we’ve dodged a bullet with this one. He clearly has an over inflated opinion of his ability and he’s never risen to the level we should be looking at.

Oh that’s convenient, can we now consign this crock of sh*t story to the Leandro Damiao bin? Along with Zaniolo from Roma… 😂
