“Just take a breath Jamie” Roy Keane Fuels Heated Exchange On Sky Sports

This blow-up in the Sky Sports studio after the Spurs/Burnley game made for great viewing. At the game was Jamie Redknapp, in the studio we had Roy Keane. I have to say, I side with Keane, who like me is pleased to see Spurs win, but cannot get excited over winning games against inherently poor sides, and making definitive statements about players.

Listening to Redknapp referring to ‘internationals’ in our squad is impossible to take seriously. We have one ageing World Cup winner who is past his sell-by date.

Burnley, as we will discuss in detail across the day, weren’t great yesterday and left Tottenham with a ridiculous amount of space to play in, if Redknapp isn’t being disingenuous, then these Tottenham players need to actually achieve something beyond being Jamie’s go-to reason that José Mourinho is a bad coach.

Show me more than a signature end of season scramble for a European place; we have a League Cup final booked and a Europa League charge on the boil. Show me something of substance.

Who can do what he can do with the football at tottenham? You may question his effort but NO WAY can his ability be questioned. Wizard with the football

Ndom is still a fraud for me. He has obviously raised his game since last season (wasn’t difficult), but if this was his first season, has he done enough to justify being one of the top wage earners in the club? For me, he holds the ball too long, performs a fancy turn here and there with very little output. He needs to do a bit more than play well v Sheff Utd to be classed on a different level.

Keane was aggressive and dismissive in his response to Redknapp, that’s all. We have 5 players that are on a different level to the rest, but that is true of most teams. I think Ndombele can be added to that list. The manager has to work with that and organise players so the sum of the parts is better than the individual parts. I think this is the problem with brining in a manager who has has decades of playing with unlimited budgets – he hasn’t had to improve players or utilise players that are very one dimensional.

I totally agreed with Keane here. He tells it how it is and doesn’t hide like other pundits who want to be ‘liked’ and so don’t say things that might upset managers, players, supporters.

We are a poor side, full of internationals who are hardly the crux of their teams, bar Son and Kane. Lloris won a World Cup, but that idiot gifted Croatia a goal in the final. He loses his near post more than my wife loses her keys!

Keane obviously doesn’t rate Doherty, and rightly so, and his comment that buying a £15m player wasn’t going to improve Spurs is bang on the money, no matter how well he did for the ‘mighty’ Wolves and ‘what a bargain’ he was. There was talk of signing Max Aarons, who I felt wasn’t ready last season, but I’d have taken him over Doherty. At least Aarons has a bit of pace and can kick the ball in the air without it being on a cone first!

Alderweireld would get in Man Utd’s team, I do agree with Redknapp there, and this seems to be what got him riled, but Tobes’ star is waning. We all know that. Hardly cause for Redknapp to get angry though. Why he felt he had to justify 4 players as being good in a squad of over 20 is beyond me.

I don’t get it, Jamie & Roy seemed to largely agree with the best and worst Spurs players? Did enjoy young Redders getting a bit lairy wiv the ex nutter though.

Missed this, just been going on about this on latest blog like a twit.

Keane BANG ON. About it all, from lack of top 4 quality to international players only needing to trap a ball to get a cap.

Redknap talks for the sake of it. Like his dad way too much dialogue. Takes a thousand words where 10 will do.

Keane started off by saying all our players were bang average (other than Kane and Son) and anyone who could trap a ball is an international. Both of those statements are nothing more than inflammatory. He then changed tack and said we’re not automatic top 4 which is absolutely true. Pity only a very upset and confused Redknapp was there to argue against.

Considering how bad we’ve been since Christmas if we had beaten West Ham last week which we should have done after the second half showing we would be 6th and if we won our game in hand we’d be top 4. We just need to go on a good run now.
