Journalist thinks Tottenham man has missed his chance after Chelsea performance

By Bruce Grove -

Carlos Vinicius had a first Premier League start to forget as he toiled all night in Tottenham’s 1-0 loss to Chelsea.

He arrived at Spurs in the summer as a backup to Harry Kane after finishing last season as the joint top scorer in the Portuguese top-flight with Benfica.

Despite his presence, Jose Mourinho has continued to rely on Kane for every Premier League match.

The Brazilian has been limited to appearances in the cup competitions, but Kane’s recent injury gave him the chance to earn a place in the Premier League team.

He started the game against the Blues, but offered nothing close to what the England captain would have delivered.

He toiled all night, and when a rare chance came, he couldn’t take it.

Sports Mail’s Matt Barlow thinks he may have missed his chance to get more EPL minutes even though he said the performance wasn’t his fault.

He writes on the Daily Mail: “Poor old Carlos Vinicius. Having waited 125 days to start in the Premier League and toiled alone up front for 88 dispiriting minutes, along came a chance – the chance – and he missed it.

“Vinicius sprang high and headed wide from Serge Aurier’s delivery. And that was that. Perhaps it explains Jose Mourinho’s reluctance to trust the Brazilian up front for Tottenham.

“He is not Harry Kane but that’s hardly his fault. He is on loan from Benfica and they wouldn’t loan him out if they thought he was the next Eusebio. ”

Harry Kane wasn’t Harry Kane at first and how long did they give Ndombele.
I have many players before him that I want to evict from the club.

Should have scored that header though.. I wish he was stood somewhere else because Lucas was right behind him and I reckon he would have put that away.. Vin had a tough game, hardly touched the ball. But it’s clear he’s not good enough… We wait years for a second striker,, Hitchen oversees all these transfers I assume he’s in close touch with Maureen. It would be interesting to see how they work.

You get what you pay for, it’s a loan, we needed a proven Premier League striker not someone who needs time to adjust. I like Vini, not his fault.
