Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months.
The 27-year-old striker wants to join a big club and the opportunity to play for Tottenham could be an interesting option for him. He has proven himself to be a reliable performer in the Premier League and it remains to be seen where he ends up.
Dean Jones has now revealed on Give Me Sport that Tottenham will be an interesting option for the player and he could be attracted to the idea of playing for them. Jones believes that the presence of Ange Postecoglou at the helm could be a defining factor.
The Australian has introduced an exciting brand of football at Tottenham and he has managed to get the best out of his squad. Players like Toney might want to play for a manager like him and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can arrange the funds to get the deal done.
“I think Tottenham is an interesting prospect for Toney to consider. Speaking to a couple of sources close to Tottenham, I’m not sure that they would consider themselves to be favourites in that situation.
“Obviously, the money that’s now being talked about makes me doubt whether a Tottenham move could actually come through in the new year.
“But I think, from a player perspective, if you were to wonder how you would fit into a team and a squad, personally, I think that you’d look at Ange Postecoglou and how he is getting the best out of people. That’s the sort of manager I would want, and I think a lot of the modern players will be looking towards having a role model like that.”
They will need to sign a quality long-term replacement for Harry Kane who left the club during the summer window. Richarlison has been largely underwhelming and Tottenham need to invest in a reliable goalscorer.
The 27-year-old Brentford striker certainly fits the profile and he could prove to be the ideal acquisition. He knows the league well and he will be able to hit the ground running. Signing him in January could help Tottenham finish the season strongly.
