Journalist claims world class manager heavily linked with Spurs is “holding out for something bigger and better than Tottenham”

By Mehdi Gokal -

Journalist Jeremy Cross has claimed that Mauricio Pochettino is holding out the Tottenham job in hope of getting a bigger job than Spurs.

The Argentine has been heavily linked with a return to the club as Conte’s replacement.

It’s been reported that he is one of the favourites for the job with Daniel Levy himself personally keen on bringing him back to the club.

However, contrary to many other reports, Cross believes that the former PSG manager is not that keen on a return to Spurs and is hoping to get a chance from a bigger club like Real Madrid who have also been linked with the Argentine.

Speaking on the Football Digest Podcast, Cross shared his view on the situation. He said:

“We all know that he was successful there before. He got them to a Champions League final and he would be a popular appointment with the supporters. Would he want to go back there?

He’s holding out for something bigger and better than Tottenham by the looks of it.

I’m led to believe he wants the Real Madrid job so there are various obstacles in the way there if Levy wants to go for Pochettino.”

This has also been reported by Mundo Deportivo who claimed that the Argentine “does not want to rush” and he “will wait to see what happens at Real Madrid, without losing sight of Tottenham.

Real Madrid eyeing him will not come as a surprise given that Perez tried to sign him twice precisely.

Pochettino himself might also be keen on a Real Madrid job if an opportunity arises.

This is why he will not make a decision until the summer when things start to become more clearer.

For now, in case Conte is sacked, he will be replaced by Ryan Mason who will step up as interim manager until the end of the season.
