Journalist claims there is no way Antonio Conte will let Spurs star leave in January

By Mehdi Gokal -

According to journalist Paul Brown, Spurs boss Antonio Conte is unlikely to let Djed Spence leave the club during the January transfer window.

The right-back joined the North London club from Middlesbrough during the summer transfer window, but the manager later revealed that he was not interested in signing him but that it was the club’s decision.

And Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge had last month claimed that Conte would not mind letting the full-back leave on loan during the January transfer window.

Brown, on the other hand, doubts that the club will allow Spence to leave in January and believes that the club will not sell the right-back on a permanent basis “in a million years” when the transfer window opens.

He told GIVEMSPORT:

“I doubt if they would even allow him a loan move in January, but I suppose that is more likely than him leaving on a permanent which I cannot see in a million years.”

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano in his column for Caughoffside, Spurs is yet to decide whether to loan him out in January or keep him but Conte, according to him, prefers to have experienced full-backs at his disposal and sees the youngster as a player for the future.

And therefore, there remains uncertainty around his immediate future at the club.

The 22-year-old has struggled to find any game time under Conte this season who does not seem to rate him just yet. But if Brown’s claim is true then he will have to find a way to force himself into the team.

He has made just four appearances for Tottenham since joining in the summer transfer window, and he will feel that his career has stalled since helping Nottingham Forest gain promotion to the Premier League last season.
