Journalist claims Italian giants are eyeing a move for Tottenham’s best defender

By Mehdi Gokal -

Juventus are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham centre-back Cristian Romero.

That’s according to TyC Sports’ journalist and Argentina football expert Gaston Edul who tweeted about the Turin club’s interest in signing the defender.

Romero joined Spurs from Atalanta initially on a loan in 2021 and eventually made the move permanent last summer.

Since joining, he has been their best defender although he has had some disciplinary issues.

In the 64 appearances he has made for the club in all competitions, he has scored one, assisted one and picked up 22 yellow cards as well as 3 red cards.

He has also been a key player for his country over last few years helping them win the Copa America and most recently the World Cup in Qatar.

Before joining Atalanta, Romero was a Juventus player however, he never made an appearance for the club and was eventually sold to Atalanta after a couple of loan spells with the Italian side.

Tottenham plan on signing at least a couple of centre-backs this transfer window with the likes of Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba, the two players strongly linked with a move.

They have already made some exciting additions to the team. The signing of James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario and Dejan Kulusevski have all been officially announced by the club.

They are also reportedly set to let go of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez.

However, there are no indications that Ange Postecoglou wants to sell Cristian Romero with the Argentine set to be part of his plans.
