Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Brentford striker Ivan Toney.
The 27-year-old is expected to leave the club in the coming months and he wants to join a big club. A move to Tottenham would be a major step up in his career and it would give him the opportunity to compete at a high level.
Toney wants to join a club capable of competing for trophies and Tottenham have certainly been quite impressive in the first few weeks of the season. They will be pushing for Champions League qualification this season and a finish in the top four would see them compete in the Premier European competition next season.
According to a report via TeamTalk, the striker was reportedly very keen on a move to Spurs 18 months ago. Apparently, he was desperate to join the north London club and his agent was pushing really hard. Since then, Tottenham have sanctioned the departure of Harry Kane but they have not brought in a quality replacement.
“I know for a fact that 18 months ago, when United thought they were going to get Kane, Toney was desperate to go to Spurs, and his agent was pushing really hard,” a journalist said on The Spurs Show.
They expected Richarlison to step up and fill the void, but the Brazilian has been quite mediocre. Spurs must look to invest in a quality goalscorer and Toney would be a superb acquisition.
He is at the peak of his powers and he could look to make an immediate impact. He is a proven performer in the Premier League and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can get the deal done.
