Jose Mourinho position on signing Philippe Coutinho revealed

By Bruce Grove -

Philippe Coutinho might well be on his way to Tottenham this summer after his loan spell at Bayern Munich, but it appears that there will be issues before the deal is ironed out.

For starters, Jose Mourinho has told Tottenham not to pursue a permanent transfer for the former Liverpool man, according to a report in Spain via MundoDeportivo.

The Portuguese manager made that decision because he is worried about upsetting the balance of his team’s dressing room since the club would have to pay Philippe Coutinho around €15 million per year or more. After all, that is what he currently earns at the moment.

However, Mourinho still wants Coutinho and the Tottenham boss is looking to bring him in on loan for the rest of the season.

The report further claims that Spurs have no problems paying his loan fee, which is around £8.5 million, however, the Lilywhites don’t want to pay his wage all alone.

The report also claims that Spurs are looking at paying just €12 million and leaving the rest for Barcelona to continue paying.

However, this is unlikely to be accepted by the Catalans, per the report because the Spanish side is determined not to pay a dime towards Coutinho if he is out on loan.

Seems to me that this one will rumble on for some time yet.
