Tottenham face a difficult situation as injuries continue to affect their squad, with the latest setback being the loss of striker Dominic Solanke.

The English forward, who has been instrumental for Spurs this season, sustained a knee injury during training earlier this month and is expected to be out for six weeks. His absence has already seen him miss three games, and he is subsequently set to miss the crucial second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool.

Manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed the severity of Solanke’s injury, prompting calls for reinforcements in the final days of the January transfer window.

John Wenham: Tottenham will now be in talks in background to get a new striker in

John Wenham, the owner of Lilywhite Rose, voiced his concerns about the club’s slow response to addressing their squad depth. He emphasised that Solanke’s injury should act as a wake-up call, urging Tottenham to make a decisive move to bring in another striker before the deadline.

Wenham stressed the significant blow Solanke’s absence has dealt to the team, highlighting the need for action.

Speaking to Tottenham News, the pundit said:

“Solanke being ruled out for six weeks is awful news. Whatever the club have been doing for the last few weeks hasn’t been good enough in terms of supporting the manager with signings. Therefore, hopefully, this acts as a wake-up call.”

“Losing your best player for six weeks is a phenomenal blow. Therefore, I’d imagine that talks are now going on in the background to get a new striker through the door as soon as possible.”

The club has been linked with several attackers this window, including PSG’s Randal Kolo Muani. However, the Frenchman opted to join Juventus.

The latest to be linked is versatile Spanish attacker Nico Williams with reports suggesting that the club are willing to trigger his release clause.

Since his arrival at Spurs in August last year for a club-record fee of €64.3 million from Bournemouth, Solanke has proven to be a vital component of the team’s attack. In his debut season, he has registered 11 goals and six assists in 29 appearances across all competitions thus far, making him Tottenham’s second-highest Premier League scorer behind James Maddison. Solanke’s contributions have extended beyond league play, with notable performances in Europe, including his first UEFA Europa League goal in a 3–0 victory over Qarabağ FK.

Although Richarlison has returned to full fitness after a hamstring injury, it remains uncertain whether Postecoglou will rely solely on the Brazilian to lead the line during Solanke’s recovery.

With the January transfer window closing, Tottenham face a critical decision: place their trust in the existing squad or move quickly to secure a new striker to stabilize their season.
