Jermaine Jenas slams Tottenham man and questions his ‘pointless’ approach

By Saikat -

Tottenham crashed to a 3-2 defeat at home against Bournemouth in the Premier League yesterday.

Their hopes of Champions League qualification have now suffered a massive blow and it remains to be seen whether the North London giants can get back on track with a positive result in the next outing.

A series of poor performances have resulted in the departure of Antonio Conte and Cristian Stellini has been put in charge until the end of the season on an interim basis.

However, Tottenham are yet to show signs of improvement under the new manager and former midfielder Jermaine Jenas has now hit out at Stellini for repeating the same mistakes as that of Conte.

Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, Jenas revealed that Stellini had the opportunity to come in and freshen things up. However, he has chosen to carry on with Conte’s defensive philosophy and Tottenham are yet to get over their weaknesses from the first half of the season.

The Londoners have been quite passive with their approach and Jenas believes that Stellini should have opted for an attacking philosophy. There is no doubt that Tottenham have the players to execute an attacking brand of football.

Players like Richarlison, Son Heung-Min, Dejan Kulusevski, Arnaut Danjuma, and Harry Kane would have benefited from a more expansive approach.

“I can’t understand why Cristian Stellini has come into this job and decided to play exactly the same way that Antonio Conte was playing. It was a real opportunity for him to come in and go ‘let’s play on the front foot, play with some energy, get these fans up’ and he’s just doing the same thing. It’s pointless,” Jenas said.

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can bounce back strongly and secure Champions League qualification for the next season.
