Jamie Redknapp points out the ‘big mistake’ Postecoglou made in the defeat to Fulham

By Saikat -

Tottenham Hotspur crashed out of the Carabao Cup during the midweek after a defeat against Fulham in the second round of the competition.

Tottenham lost the game on penalties and popular pundit Jamie Redknapp has now criticised manager Ange Postecoglou for his team selection.

Redknapp believes that Postecoglou should have used James Maddison against Fulham in the cup game.

The 26-year-old has been outstanding for Tottenham since joining the club and he has helped them carve out opportunities in every game.

He could have certainly made a big difference for Tottenham in the final third and there is no doubt that he could have helped them win the game.

Redknapp said on Sky Sports Premier League (8:24pm, September 2, 2023): “They lost to Fulham in the Cup which is really disappointing, but the way to bounce back was today. James Maddison didn’t play in midweek, big mistake, I don’t think Bissouma started, which is another one.”

Postecoglou was clearly hoping to rest his key players for the cup game so that they could stay fresh for the weekend’s clash against Burnley.

However, it is very early on in the season and there is no reason why Maddison cannot play two games in a week.

The 26-year-old has looked fresh and full of energy in the Premier League this season and the Spurs manager will certainly regret his decision to bench the player until the 82nd minute.

Tottenham have an exciting squad at their disposal but they are not quite ready to challenge for major trophies yet. However, they could have easily gone all the way in the domestic competitions and crashing out of the Carabao Cup will come as a devastating blow for them.
